Turn 4

Ground Phase (real time)

I chanced an attack on this unit and got a reserve activation. Whew. I can bet there is a unit in Voznesensk if keeping up with the defense pattern of the Soviets. A soviet Mech unit routed to there thus I am going to try and surround that hex too for good measure.

Turn 4

Ground phase (real time)

I got a TWO for one on this combat. The last airborne brigade reserve activated(from orange circle) only to be routed along with the airborne brigade I was attacking!!! That should complete the encirclement battles!!!!

I certainly enjoy these clinics, even if they come at the expense of someone else. (Sorry Bobo)

Bobo is doing the best he can with the Soviets which is by no means a very easy feat. I just do these to try and give people insight into the battles. Certain divisions carry weight on defense. That is why I seek these out so I know when & where to attack. These become ever increasingly more difficult in later turns.

Turn 4

Ground phase

Pocket Southern Front (real time)

This should seal the pocket along with the bonus pocket at the bottom town. I count maybe 12 Divisions. I still have house keeping and move up all the infantry for the south.

Turn 4

Ground phase

Look at this battle and the Ground support. I really really recommend at a minimum 1.5 to 1 escort to bombers. That is bare minimum I do for Germans if I can. Anything less you are going to start to lose bombers. 2 to 1 escort to bomber is a nice spot but for Soviets I would recommend higher. You can control this for offense with putting fightters or bombers on rest. Much harder to do on defense but can be done :(

Turn 4

Center pockets

Center was basically just moving units around. I count 11 units in these pockets that took multiple turns to make. Bobo did a very good job in delaying on this sector of the map.

Turn 4

North Pocket (real time)

Little harder here since I am still moving into position but next turn I should have sufficient strength to push harder. But I was still able to get a very small pocket of two units. Total current surrounded Soviet Divisions is 25. If the pockets hold will be another story.

Oh yes, as Axis, people can see in his posted AAR that he has been a handful for Glorious Ruse. That makes it all the more interesting when facing an accomplished player, even if he is used to playing the other side.

That's the polite way of putting it. He's kicking me up and down the steppe and serving as a brutal reminder that a few successful games in beginner land does not an expert make.

Which is in itself a polite way of saying that I didn't instruct you very well in our MP game.

We were winning! Someone else was doing the staff work! I didn't look too hard...

Honestly, playing Bobo is the first time I've realized just how much MORE staff work the red army needs initially. My beginner level opponents let me get away with only paying it mild attention.

Hehehe, I was supposed to be on the Soviet Multi Player BETA team. I was voted "off" the Soviet MP team by the Axis team...

I am 100% sure M60 did a wonderful job. It is a great deal to come to grasps with that is for sure. A great many idiosyncrasies in the game that you come to understand with time. I have shown many in my AAR's in WITE1.

Like I was pointing out earlier in the AAR you don't want to have in your 3rd line regiments or brigades. They are fragile as heck and in early game for Soviets they will shatter or route because of ToE. Little things like that. Bobo has one more river to hide behind in the Center and after that lord knows what happens.

Well the beta MP game was also a much older version where Axis had to attack the same Soviet unit 4-5 times before it would crumble and a lot of changes to casualties were made since then to significantly weaken the Soviets to balance the game out a lot more.

why are you building depots outside towns? Realise there are times when it is useful but at this phase it'll take 3-4 turns for the railyard to repair and by then (hopefully) you are off to the east. But in the meantime it may well cost you more supply to construct than it actually usefully processes?

Ya, built turn 2, probably cost me a boat load, but... Any closer I can get to the front with the supply network the better is how I am looking at it when the rail comes through. This should still support operations for turn 5 & 6. Otherwise the supply would be coming from the town behind it 3 hexes away behind swamps, although it should be using the roads :-). I felt it was worth it for the 3 hex forward & should pay for some of the cost turn 5, I hope.

Turn 5

Three (3) of the five (5) pockets were broken. I expected the North and the Center to a lesser degree. (I left a regiment on purpose in the North to be broken I had 3 other Moto division that could have easily plugged the hole) But in the South the GD regiment disappointed me.

So now I have to take the pockets out of novice mode and put them into intermediate level. What do I mean by that? Anyone want a go on answering that one?

Turn 5 Beginning of Turn

North Pocket

Interesting Bobo bombed this unit with 334 bombers with no escorts. My fighters didn't engage at all. Even the nearest base Polotsk said, "not interested in messing with those bombers. Even the fighters with drop tanks at Daugavpils said, "Nope, they can bomb" Bobo was extremely lucky none came out. Ballz of steel those bombers had.

Now I have to figure out why well rested fighters on day missions with zero fatigue didn't intercept. Maybe I am missing something here. :( Maybe just bad rolls.
