Trying to intercept Bomber Commands raids seems like a lottery, some rare nights I get 50+ kills next 10 nights only one or two, most RAF losses seems to occur when night landing in Britain.

I'm at Feb 1st 44 and more than half of my night fighters are He 219 and Me 110 G-4/R7s, they are very good at "detecting" bombers, but only about one in 50 "detection" leads to an actual intercept. So despite their new fancy tech (FuG 220, Naxos, etc), they mostly get their intercepts in search light areas over the bomber target (I don't even bother to send my Wilde-Sau fighters, they lose more than they get. I spare those pilots to when they converts to dayfighters).

At what altitude should I place my NF-patrols? Does altitude matter at all? The radars shows incoming raids at 21000, but over target the info says 12000, sometimes its the other way around.

By this time in the war the Germans had the Würzburg radar that could fairly pin point the altitude of raiders. But now it seems like a guessing game because there is no way to change patrol altitude in flight.

AI nearly always sends in at max altitude. Some of those 12k plots will be Stirlings. Set between 18-21k so you can be in position to either use the SM from below or dive on bombers illuminated by the fires below. The conversion of detection to intercept does seem to be lower but at least the NJG have working radars again! Yes, they got lost during the plethora of updates from 1.04 but are working as intended again.
You are doing exactly as I do, most intercepts are over the target, plenty of those are just damaged so with flak damage added there is the considerable amount of crashes happening in Britain.

You should have a good idea of a B-17/24 mission by its plot when it first appears. I use the 109/190 NJG as 'first response day fighters' and put them up early (63 minute readiness) to have another 3-6 gruppen hitting a bomber mission.

Ok, so the best bet against the AI is to set patrol at 21000 when roaming the bomberstream?

I have done that, but the 109/190 nightfighters have worse statstics than their day counterparts and easy get shredded if Mustangs are nearby, so I do play it careful.

When do these units convert to dayfighters? ...I have a bunch of Me109-G5/AS and FW 190-A5 and A6 waiting for them.

I think it's early March. Review the planes before you chop them, you might find it interesting. If they go in after the interceptors and the twins they (might) stand a better survival. You just need to be hitting the 'viermots' hard the closer you get to a possible sudden death in June/July.

I set the gruppen at 18, 19, 20 and 21K, not all at one height. The airbourne radar only covers so much height difference, but once you get a positive sighting the plots height is confirmed and any interceptions will be accordingly.

By November 44 Bomber Command was getting equipped with effective jamming devices causing all sorts of problems with your ground and air radar. You should do better as your fighters get equipped the with the SN-2 and especially the Berlin.

The allied ELINT bombers are recording your use of the SN-2 which accelerates their "piperjack" countermeasure so soon the SN-2 will be obsolete until the Berlin's get installed. Always good to try and pick off those RCM bombers when you can, but its definitely an uphill struggle. Start researching the Me262b which comes with the Berlin standard equipment.

Thanks I tested that and it worked a bit better with those altitudes, got 25 kills last nigth in a raid against Hamburg. I also got a ton of detections so I would probably had gotten more kills if there was less cloudy.

But still some mysteries.
At the same night the allies launched a raid from Italy that i did'nt pay attention to (I usually don't bother with those raids, because they so far only had hit small citys in Greece and Balkans). But this time they took me by surprise and hit Mährich Ostrau far inland, so I launched my only Me 110G-4/R7 unit i had in the south, around Vienna, on a direct intercept after they dropped their bombs. And this single Gruppe shot down 8 Wellingtons (!) on their return flight.

I guess 205 group don't have RCM planes or night fighters with them. Not sure if Wellingtons carry tail warning devices. Your SN2 radar is going to be far more useful in those Southern skies without all that electronic interference. Plus Wellingtons have less defensive firepower, less performance and less damage then 4 engined bombers. Bet the morale of that Gruppe was good in the mess later!
