Can't figure out how to soften unit during the land unit mode. And how does on para-drop supply to an isolated unit?

Supply drops use the F9 key and functionality

in the ground phase the only air missions are ground support when actually in combat. You can set Ground attack-unit missions to hit targets out of ground combat but that is planned and executed in the air phase

the lack of tactical support on is a huge disappointment in this game. Very surprised it does not exist.

it is not tactical if you cannot call it in.

If you have ground support on during an attack, then your forces will get "tactical support" if possible.

You can set up which air units will support which ground units in as much detail as you'd like during the air setup phase by creating multiple ground support air directives.

You also have the option to toggle the Ground Support on/off for better control if you so wish (such as when you get beyond the fighter cover).

To generate “tactical support”

1. Align a Ground Support AD in support of a given ground forces HQ.

2. Any unit under that HQ can now call on the assigned supporting aircraft.

3. Turn on GS (the X key) before attacking, and when you go in those aircraft will support the attack assuming they’re in range, it matches your air doctrine, etc.

The age being what it was, no, you can’t suddenly realign supporting air. You make your call at the start of the week, and that’s the HQ that has them on call. It can be a big freakin HQ, but that’s the limit.

If you switch a fighter group to Rest will this stop the automatic air intercept that happens when you have Ground Support off?

Also a neat little feature I spotted is that an air drop sets up some sort of temporary depot.
