Hello, is there a game mechanic similar to prepared attacks of land units? There is a huge difference in this two cases:

1) A DD had attacked my submarine and could not get away, so in my turn they were right next to each other. The predicted combat result was 3:2 (3 loses on my side).
2) If I moved another submarine to the destroyer, the combat result was 6:2. The u-boat had similar experience and, unlike the u-boat in 1, was upgraded.

I could not find anything about this in the manual, and the combat predication gives no information about a naval prepared attack.

I encountered the same issue in SC: WW2. The reply is that when attacking with a sub after movement: the attack value of the sub is halved. It was not mentioned in the manual but I believe it is now adapted in the WW2 manual. I can look into it if you want.

That explains it. (You don't have to look, of course, thank you very much.)

I think it would be nice if the combat predication showed that, because in both cases it shows "NA=4 vs SUD=3" but with a different result.

That's correct. It is a pitty. The best games are games who explain the rules ( apart from fog of War) during the game.

If you have strategic command WW2 you can verify with the latest manual.

Have a nice game. I need to start WW1 in the coming weeks. Hopefully as good as WW1. Trenches iqs also not so good explained in the manual. We'll see.

You haven't played WW1 yet? Well, it is as good as the WW2 games. Have fun. :)

Actually the manual for SC WW1 is both more up to date and significantly more complete than the manuals for the two older WW2 games. Nevertheless, there are a number of changes that have been made through the updates to all of these games which you will not find in the rules, plus some subtleties that you have to find on your own, or by posing a question in this Forum - as you have done.

This bothered me too at first when I started playing the game a year ago - now it doesn't. It is unreasonable to expect the devs to rewrite a very long manual every time there is an update. If offered the choice between a living game that is regularly updated in response to player feedback, or one that is "finished when published", I know which I would choose.

It is in the manual. Section 7.3.8 page 195.

You are right:
quote:

Note that the best use of Subs in combat is to lurk and ambush enemy vessels. If however, a Sub moves before attacking then the vessel it attacks will have its losses reduced by 50%, and the attacking Sub will have its losses doubled.
