For every in game month I will be making an AAR describing what happened during that month. I have played the Coral Sea Scenario as the Allies and some of the Guadalcanal Scenario as the Allies (I stopped playing that once trying to get more fuel and supply was too tedious). I am using the December 8: The Full Campaign scenario and playing against a hard AI. I have always played strategy games, first Civ, then Paradox games, so the complexity of the game isn't too bad for me. Hopefully I can keep this going for a while and at a decent pace. December 1941 The attack at Pearl Harbor did not go well for me. The West Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arizona were sunk instantly. Seven greatly needed DDs, DMSs, and DMs were also sunk. The Nevada took 3 bomb hits and 5 torpedo hits but didn't sink instantly. She burned in port until the 14th when she finally sunk. I really thought I could have saved her. Pennsylvania and Maryland are on their way to the West Coast while California still has to remain at Pearl for a bit before she can also go to the West Coast The Defense of the Philippines has gone surprisingly well. My PT boats based out of Manila have wreaked havoc on the Japanese landing forces in Northwest Luzon sinking many AKs and the CA Kako. I also pulled the MTBs from Hong Kong to Manila, but they have not performed well. The P-40s put up a valiant battle over the Philippines, but large bomber raids and Zeroes eventually caused too much damage and I had to pull the P-40s back to Java and Sumatra. I want to mention three brave PBY pilots flying out of Manila which managed to put two torpedoes into the BB Hyuga, which was damaged in a previous naval engagement to try and stop the Japanese landing at Davao. I am still holding the smaller Filipino islands, Cagayan, and Clarke Field. Manila hasn't fallen yet, but I have pulled all of the forces out of it in order to defend Clarke Field and Bataan. Efforts to bring more supply into Bataan have been foiled by Japanese BBs and the CVL Ryujo operating in the Makassar Strait. Efforts to dislodge them resulted in the sinking of the Cornwall, De Ruyter, and Durban. Additionally, the Exeter and Caledon are heavily damaged. However, one Japanese BB was heavily damaged, and the battle provided an opening for the Repulse and Renown (edit: Should be Prince of Wales, not Renown), who were heavily damaged by Japanese bombers on the 7th, to retreat from Soerabaja to South Africa. Naval battles around the Philippines have also resulted in the loss of the Boise, Marblehead, Houston, Danae, and one Clemson class DD. My naval power in the Far East now consists of some light Dutch and British light cruisers, destroyers, many submarines, and the Hermes, although its one sortie ended in disaster for its Swordfish pilots. Japanese forces have been slowly marching down Malaya, fighting is taking place in Kuala Lumpur and Temuloh is about to fall, trapping the Indian troops at Kuantan. My air force has had to retreat to Singapore and Johore Bahru where they are desperately trying to hold back the waves of Japanese bombers and Oscars. The Kiwis have upgraded to Hurricanes, but they aren't faring much better in them compared to their old Buffaloes. The Japanese advance into Burma has barely begun with the capture of Tavoy, but so far that front is fairly secure. Additionally, the Japanese have so far only landed in Miri on Borneo. China has been fairly quiet so far with the Japanese mainly using ineffective bombardment attacks. Chaochow and Swatow have been recaptured and Chinese troops are marching into Chengchow to encircle some Japanese troops attacking Loyang. An honorable mention should be given to an I-15 pilot flying out of Changsha in conjunction with a squadron of the Flying Tigers who managed to shoot down a Zero. One area that the Japanese have been murdering me is on the submarine front. Japanese subs off the coast of Australia and North America have sunk many of my merchant ships and I don't have enough escorts to stop them. Overall the Japanese are marching forward, but have taken some heavy losses. They have lost one BB, three CAs, and a CL. They have also lost almost 800 aircraft while destroying 430 of my aircraft. In January we shall see whether Singapore and Bataan falls, and what if a Japanese invasion of the DEI will be successful.
