The latest version of my counters is available here

Please, someone, could a talented modder artist improve the basic design of unit counters. It seems that all aspects of the game got an excellent rework...except the counters.
I am no graphic artist myself. But please, some modder friend, update it with something more polished and subtle than vanilla.
Thank you.

and it would be very nice to have different counters for German Light Infantry divisions. NATO symbol for light infantry is just Infantry with an "L" in the center bottom.

The files involved are the 6 .tga files that start with Counter, CounterSheet, and CounterDropShadow in the dat\Art\Units folder.
And a bit of adjustment to the FontConfig.txt for the numeric values
Using jison files as a start, the work seems quite simple.
Sorry that I can't do it, my eyes are not good enough anymore to do the thing.

Without changing the actually counter graphics you can use my font settings (or something similar) you can see my changes just by editing the fonts. In my case I use fonts that are a little more like the old board game fonts from the 70's.

Some examples:

More than light infantry symbol, is needed different counters set for Soviets. Some time ago I tried to make German historical symbols but doesn't look good when Soviets units show Schwartz Weiss Rot too.

Hi Zovs,
Yes your font has the nostalgic slightly smoother design feel of those boardgames I loved so much too. Could you join the name of the font you use (or the Fontconfig.txt) as an attachment ?
Thank you

>different counters set for the Soviet
Hi 821 Bobo,
Your german symbols are fine. Having a choice between different countersets would be a welcome addition.

Kel,

Here is the link:

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4988051

Scroll to the bottom where I posted the latest version. You'll have to download Hack fonts.

I am toying with the TGA to try adapt a gg1 mod and get rid of two-colors counters (lufwaffe, non-elite ss..) and "yellow italians" , so I opened the foles and the nato simbol for light inf (inf with an L) is included in the counter tga, but it seems the german light divisions are classified as infantry in the scenario , as the engine does nt take the simbol

zoom4

zoom3

I tried to give thickness in zoom3 not yet decided between both (I had to lower font size from 8 to 7 in this level)

unit box

the counters are not mine, took them from my old GG1 tga files and cannot even remenber wich mod used for that...

That German color for some reason reminds me of the old Avalon Hill board game France 1940.

Love that squared NATO simbols!

Applied them with some minor changes (HQs, SEC and fort units) and different backs (no diagonal two colors)

Did only applied the new font to map , not to counters, these are 44 and 36 examples

Agree, I think it can be solved if someone knows how the engine choose between black set of "size" markers and White ones in the TGA files (XX,III and so on) and a way to tool on that choosing involving side.

You are right. This blur was present on the old wite1 mod, that I use as a base. I'll clean it. May take some time.

Symbols should be crispier now. In Preferences, uncheck 'counters drop shadow'.
Updated counters file in next post for download.

Yeah the Soviet infantry counters look odd, but I still prefer your historical counters to the NATO counters!
Can you share your mod?

Thanks, Kel! This was one of my favorites for WitE1 too, and I'm absolutely thrilled to have it back!

My only "beef" (here I go, complaining about the flavor of the free ice cream - lol) was the Romanians looking like Ivan, but fixing that was a pretty trivial issue using Paint.net and playing with the hue and lightness, as well as the SS not being proper black. Fixed, though, and it was a minor job thanks to you doing all of the heavy lifting, so thanks again.

Oh, and the font you use for the map I don't have, and I found that just changing the font name in the .json file to one I DO have doesn't cut the mustard. Apparently you have to spend an hour fiddling with the sizes to get it to display just right, but that's due to the UI and the lack of documentation for us crazy modders (not a primary concern, so I'm not complaining).

Great work, mate!

@MishaTX- do you mind sharing your updated version containing the more "colourful" Romanians and SS please ? I too find them hard to distinguish from the Russians.
