Any reason why Romania is spelled Rumania in the game? The modern English spelling is Romania and has been since the 1970s

I think the clue is in your question versus the date the game is set?

If the map depicts exactly what the British or US High Command would be looking at during WW2 it probably fits right in...

I think the game uses the Romanian spelling of the country name!

For this reason Leningrad is not Saint-Petersburg, and Bruex (Brüx - 140,187) Most.

Obviously Leningrad should not be named Saint-Petersburg in WW2 game but I just felt that using the spelling of Romania was a bit out of place. I can’t remember seeing this in similar games.

But just to be clear; No big deal. I move on

But Akmolinsk still named Astana on the map :(
Astana is only from 1998 till 2019

I find many WW2 games prefer to use WW2 terms, names, flags, symbols, etc. Rumania is an example of that, although that is the spelling the Americans used. The French and British use Roumania (why pick one vowel when you can use both!?)

When modern words/ things are used in a historical context (without specifically noting it) it looks odd - for example, I always find it odd to see the red and white Maple Leaf for Canada in a WW2 context when we were still using the Red Ensign at the time. Conversely some batch of weirdos online was using the Red Ensign in a modern context, which is also wrong (that was only one of many things they were wrong about...)

Sometimes things are in terms that are more familiar to us, and easier for us to adapt to; NATO identification symbols for example, that weren't used at the time.

Of course some things are not used because of just how charged they are, and that promotion of those symbols is a crime in various nations. The swastika is an obvious example, even though the symbol itself predates the Nazis by many centuries.

But I am also sure that mistakes were made, particularly for the less well known locations. Akmolinsk/ Astana is probably one of those. You could probably make a case to 2by3 for the name to be changed if you feel it appropriate.
