Hello,

I don't understand how minelaying missions work. i try as a japanese to do a minelaying mission in singapore, the submarine is well supplied with mines but it goes to singapore and leaves without dropping the mines. there is obviously something i didn't understand and i haven't been able to find anything about it in the manuals or the old threads. your help would be greatly appreciated.

the sub is set to "do not lay mines" by default, you have to set it to "lay mines" in the TF screen

Also, there are a lot of Allied mines at Singapore for your sub to clear the hard way.

GP, you got the quote wrong by a smidge. Every ship CAN be a minesweeper once......

the sub is set to "do not lay mines" by default, you have to set it to "lay mines" in the TF screen

Also, be aware that if anything interrupts the minelaying mission like attack by aircraft or ASW forces, the sub will abort and return to base - where it will lay those mines! If a mission aborts you need to reassign the target or turn off the "Lay mines" to prevent the minelayer from dropping them at home port.

If you create a Minelaying TF and don't give it a destination and the mechanics did not have a default of "Do Not Lay Mines" then your mines would be laid in the port of TF creation potentially wasting mines (unless that is where you want them laid).

I have always presumed this is why the default is do not lay. If you want to lay a minefield you have to actively give the TF that order, not just create a TF.
