why does my airforce during turns 3 for example and pretty much always when i have checked it during months of playing so ineffective with ground support
they dont seem to get kills even when theyre mission was 'bomb' ...at most they do some air disruption..not that much though

is this normal? doesnt seem so scary this luftwaffe :D

There's ground attack and ground support missions. You mention ground support but what you're saying sounds more like ground attack. Regardless, ground support you assign to one or more HQ's and to activate it you have to press "X" (or click the ground support toggle button) which will light up orange. Then in the next combat, if those units are part of HQ's that have ground support air units linked, the air units will fly automatically to help with the battle.

Ground attack mission, at least as Axis, you won't use that much. Mainly to attack airfields turn 1 or maybe some ports later. You can use it to increase interdiction values for enemy units but as a way to kill enemy units it's much better to just fly ground support and have your air units help out in ground battles (IMO).

If you're truly running ground support and find it to be inefficient then it could be for various reasons. You could be flying too far out of escort range and your bombers are getting slaughtered. Or you could be flying too many missions which increases losses (from air combat and operational breakdowns). But I can say that Luftwaffe ground support will completely dominate Soviet air force for at least the first year, if properly used.

ground attack and support both but i was talking about support here
my fighters usually decimate any russian airforce but the bombers just do nothing 0 kills most of the time
gave them 1000kg bomb...altitude 9000...stgs are right behind frontline (supply prio 1 or 2 and pz grps on 4 and inf on 1)
they are joining the ground support just they do 0 kills

You'd probably have to attach some combat log/combat detail screenshots for any of us to be able to say. I can tell you I've never noticed them being ineffective but that doesn't mean you haven't run into bug or there's something else going on.

I'd prob link em from a Dropbox or Imgur or something. Someone else may have recommendations but I don't typically upload too many files.

You can probably post them now. After you have 10 posts you can put up graphics files but not before. You are now at 12 posts so you should be able to now.

There are 2 R.A.D. constr units in the Norway-TB. Any downside when I transfer them to the map ?

TB interactions are not well known or documented. Since they have no combat value you can probably do so without penalty at this time. I am not sure if this is one of the unit types they will be changing in the future.

Thanks.
Another Q: there is the 7th Flieger Division in the WE-TB. 95 experience. I'd like to transfer them to the map too (exchange). Do we know on what criteria "values" of a unit in a TB are based on ? Experience ? CV ? Or same answer as in your reply ?

One more Q: lots of sec hq will be transfered to the garrison box around t7. They don't have any cv but seem to have lots of trucks (?). Can I disband these hqs without penalties ?

I know the Soviets have more than one National Supply Source (NSS). In the Operation Typhoon 41 scenario, if I completely surround Moscow are all the Soviet units on the map cut off from their NSS(s)?

Or do the off map railways lead to the other NSS which cannot been seen on because of the map restrictions?

Why does ground element type with id 107 have a name of "Artillery" when it consists solely of ground elements of "(1489) Armaments production (- 1/40)"?

Is anyone having issues in the 01.00.11 beta where the ai just refuses to attack? its January 1942 and the soviet AI has already gotten huge amounts of troops into the field but is just moving units without launching any counteroffensive at all.

I am running the beta and have not seen this in any of my games. Out of curiosity what are your morale settings? If you set AI to 110 does the AI still behave without attacking?

I already played on 110 the entire game. I downloaded the beta in the middle of the game and when I go back to 1.00.07 the behaviour is as expected. They said that the new beta should be OK with the saves from 1.00.07 so I really don't understand why the AI is just sometimes doing absolutely nothing.

Edit: Ran a turn earlier this day and the AI attacked, but immediately pulled their units back afterwards.

Commanders Report - Leader Tab will show you status of KIA/MIA leaders. Might be a hidden column, but I think it's visible by default. Either way, the column will let you know if any of your leaders are KIA/MIA but it won't give any more detail other than that.

The main place to find the detail is in the Logistics Event log each turn in the Leaders section where it will document if a leader died. But that doesn't carry over from turn to turn so you'd have to go back to the turn where it happened to check the log and see.

Lastly, my condolences if you lost Guderian in your game. That's a huge blow!

Why don't my bombing missions work?

I am trying to set up strategic bombing missions for bombing railyards and ports. The strange thing is that it will bomb some cities just fine, but not others. The explanation is definitely not range, because some of the cities it will bomb are further away than some of the cities that it won't bomb. In particular, it won't bomb Pskov or Smolensk no matter what I do. However, it WILL bomb other cities which are further away such as Vitebsk/Riga/Tallinn.

The problem even persists if I delete all other air directives, so it is not an issue of it being a low priority mission or something like that. The planes being used were deployed in previous turns and should have plenty of supply (they have range, supply, etc needed to bomb Vitebsk for example, but not Smolensk!?!). The problem is not that the planes are too understrength to fly (many of the AOGs are full strength, and in addition in air doctrine I tried setting the percent to fly super low). The problem is not that the weather is too bad; it is the same weather in the cities it can bomb, and in any case I set the mission to fly in all weather. These cities I am trying to bomb were not just conquered the previous turn, in case that makes any difference. I tried selecting specific AOGs to do the mission, and leaving it on auto, neither work.

Here are the settings I am using for the mission (I have tried all sorts of settings, none of which will launch a bombing raid on certain cities):

Here is my air doctrine (similarly I have tried a variety of air doctrine settings, none of which will launch a bombing raid!:

Here is the (lack of a) result after going through the air phase:

I have a save, but I can't upload it via the forum file upload thing because it says the file is too large. Also the format is not supported for upload (though I could just rename it if the file were small enough). Compressing the save file using .zip/7z/rar/etc doesn't seem to make it any smaller. So here is an external link for the save.

https://easyupload.io/3h7xho

However, this is a multiplayer game, so if anyone can help but needs the save, PM me for the password to be able to open it and see.

This is almost comical. I set up a bombing mission in a 10 by 10 area to bomb the railyards rather than selecting the particular hex for bombing Smolensk. The result of that it bombs all sorts of railyards all over the place...

But not the Smolensk railyard!

My working theory is that Stalin must have issued a secret order to not bomb Smolensk (and also Pskov) out of humanitarian reasons. However, it is perfectly fine to bomb Vitebsk etc because that city is a hotbed of Trotskyism. And in fact, that proves their guilt.

It is plausible, right?

Speaking to the second post, if you set a 10 by 10 it's going to try and hit as many targets as it can within that box and based on strike number (# of sorties). So, it's not that surprising, honestly. If you want to bomb specific areas, set individual hex missions or make the box much smaller.

Surely one of those targets could be Smolensk though... It is, after all, the most important railyard in the area. And it also doesn't work when selected individually in a single 1x size bombing mission

What do you mean "it doesn't work". The mission runs and does nothing or you get No Fly indicators when trying to set the mission?

the 3rd screenshot I posted is here: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/846782442705518592/846837917024649256/unknown.png

If you look at that, it shows 0 sorties were flown. This was after the air phase was executed. Likewise on the map no mission is flown. So simply nothing happens, no sortie, no bombing.

But if I set it to bomb another hex such as Vitebsk it will bomb it fine. Just not Smolensk (also Pskov, maybe some others too that I didn't try). And unfortunately, Pskov and Smolensk are pretty much the two most important railyards to bomb!

Perhaps it may not have been recon'ed enough. The mission won't hit a target it doesn't think exists, or thinks is already severely damaged.

Disband / merge questions.

1. Will Soviet disbanded / merged units be returned after X turns or will they disappear forever?
2. In particular, Soviet disbanded / merged TDs will be returned after X turns as TBRs or will they disappear forever?
