Cute kitty. Your feet not so much. Do you get splinters in your feet?....GP

I use feet like that to scratch my back ...

No splinters on my feet but I did get one in my bum as a child which required a trip to the emergency room. I think that it was a long, wide board from a tamarack tree. Nice big splinters.

I have a back scratcher with a telescoping handle. I also have one of those nylon bath "sponges" on a handle.

Thank you for the extra details RJ. ....GP

You are welcome. I am sorry that I don't have pictures of when that splinter was in my bum.

Another thing to note is that my BS level is normal today, so no extra BS to get rid of.

My BS level is high today. Mostly because my cough and breathing issues seem to be returning....GP

Yes, inflammation can raise the blood sugars. Take an anti-inflammatory if allowed, drink green tea with a half or a whole teaspoon of cinnamon. Be careful of lots of cinnamon if it is not Ceylon cinnamon since the cheap Chinese cinnamon has coumarin in it. Let it steep for a few minutes first. You can also use black tea or coffee as well.

Oh, I thought you meant Bull S&%t....
Ok

That too. But what I typed is true. I remember reading a long time ago about a research study where people were taking 20 aspirin a day and their blood sugars went down. They were switched to Salsalate because it is easier on the stomach.

Previous and recent studies reveal a possible relationship between inflammation and obesity. The chronic activation of the immune system due to low-grade inflammation was found in several studies to be associated with obesity, and this, in turn, can promote development of insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance. Administration of salicylates was shown over a century ago to lower glucose levels in patients with diabetes. Many in vitro and in vivo pharmacologic studies have demonstrated a glucose-lowering effect of salicylates. Salicylates, especially salsalate, were found in several clinical studies and case reports to be potential agents for diabetes treatment with a favorable safety profile. Although these studies had inherent limitations, such as small numbers of patients and short duration, the vast majority showed significant glucose-lowering effects. A large randomized trial, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases-sponsored Targeting Inflammation with Salsalate in Type 2 Diabetes (TINSAL-T2D) trial, recently concluded that salsalate lowers hemoglobin A(1c) levels and improves glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. . . .

Yes, metformin can cause symptoms like the stomach flu but you do not have to eat if you do not want to unlike some other pharmaceutical.

Here are a couple more things to read which should be of interest to everyone:

Effect of artificial sweeteners on insulin resistance among type-2 diabetes mellitus patients

quote:

Abstract

Introduction: Incidence of diabetes mellitus has increased over the past few years, mainly due to our eating habits and physical inactivity. This also includes the use of artificial sweetening agents which have broadly replaced other forms of sugars and have shown a paradoxical, negative effect on blood glucose. Ingestion of these artificial sweeteners (AS) results in the release of insulin from pancreas which is mistaken for glucose (due to their sweet taste). This increases the levels of insulin in blood eventually leading to decreased receptor activity due to insulin resistance.

Methodology: It is a crosssectional study that was conducted on patients diagnosed with type-2 diabetes mellitus of a tertiary care hospital in Central India. All the diabetics that presented in the OPD were divided into 2 groups based on whether they use AS (group A) or not (group B). Insulin resistance was calculated for each group using HOMA-IR and graphs were plotted.

Results: The HOMAIR values for Group A and B ranged from 0.9-24.33 and 0.12-10.83 with mean values 7.39 and 2.6, respectively, showing that the ones who used AS had a higher insulin resistance. The study also showed that the duration of use of artificial sweeteners had a direct impact on insulin resistance.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32110567/

Combining carbs and sweeteners could affect insulin sensitivity

quote:

A new study shows that mixing artificial sweeteners with carbohydrates alters a person’s sensitivity to sweet tastes, which may impact insulin sensitivity.A new study shows that mixing artificial sweeteners with carbohydrates alters a person’s sensitivity to sweet tastes, which may impact insulin sensitivity.
.
.
.
New research led by investigators from Yale University in New Haven, CT, and other academic institutions has now made a surprising finding.

In a study paper published in Cell Metabolism, the researchers indicate that a combination of artificial sweeteners and carbohydrates appears to lead to poorer insulin sensitivity in healthy adults.

“When we set out to do this study, the question that was driving us was whether or not repeated consumption of an artificial sweetener would lead to a degrading of the predictive ability of sweet taste,” explains senior author Prof. Dana Small.

“This would be important because sweet-taste perception might lose the ability to regulate metabolic responses that prepare the body for metabolizing glucose or carbohydrates in general,” she adds.

However, the team was surprised to make an altogether different find.
.
.
.
The tests allowed the scientists to assess any changes in the participants’ brain activity in response to different tastes — including sweet, sour, and salty — as well as to measure their taste perception and insulin sensitivity.

Yet, when they analyzed the data they had collected thus far, the investigators found surprising results. It was the intended control group — the participants who had ingested sucralose and maltodextrin together — that presented altered brain responses to sweet tastes, as well as altered insulin sensitivity and glucose (sugar) metabolism.

To verify the validity of these findings, the researchers asked another group of participants to consume drinks containing either sucralose alone or maltodextrin alone over a further 7-day period.

The team found that neither the sweetener on its own, nor the carbohydrate on its own seemed to interfere with sweet taste sensitivity or insulin sensitivity. . . .

I hate my humidity detector. I tells everybody who can hear it that I showered but it never tells me when dinner is ready.

I should put some beer in the fridge and cook a bunch of potatoes then warm up some chicken for supper. Unfortunately I am out of Snickers bars for dessert . . .

I suppose that I could cook some apples and craneberries with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for dessert. Some whipped topping on top . . .

You know what helped a lot, stir frying with cooking sherry. I cut out most cooking oils. I'm also eating better snacks. Like hummus and carrots. Both of which I like anyway. When it comes to chips, I look for lower fat and lower sugar. Plus I am getting some more exercise than normal. That is I walk more. ....GP

For me, my favorite exercise is a 12 ounce curl.

Walking gives me problems, if you remember the picture of my right foot with the blister. For my right foot, I also have a big bone spur on the bottom of the heel, what I think is a bone spur behind what should be the middle toe, a bone spur where the achilles tendon joins the ankle, and small bone spurs around the heel which I also have on my left foot. A big bone spur on my left knee which did painfully lock it up along with some smaller ones there as well, maybe some on the right knee as well. The doctor at the ER asked if I would take two hydrocodone if he prescried them. Boy was I loopy. I also have bursitius in my right hip and bone spurs in my lower back. All this is besides the fallen arches in my feet. Not that my right foot has any arch anymore.

Yet I will still walk for miles . . .

Good morning!

Except for Orm and Zorch.

Orm's morning is already past so have a good day!

For Zorch? He does not like people wishing him a good day or any part thereof. So let him have a day like this lizard, I hope that he enjoys it!
