• Our Bde moving to cut the rail line just SW of Vinh is blocked by a single enemy unit, strength unknown. Aerial recon has been assigned. Our units is the Lushai Bde, a fine unit but a lightly equipped parachute Bde. Lacking serious hardware, they will hold the river crossing for a few days until the heavy units move up. The USA Provisional Tank Bde, Indian Army 268th Motorized Bde are two days away and the Chinese Army 3rd New Corps (905 AV!) is about 5 days away.

• Two more Bdes railed in to Udon Thani and both will head for Ubon. A corps HQ was also on that train and will head up the Vinh offensive.

• There is another wave of small ships heading for Bangkok. The B-24's will hit Bangkok's port to impede that. We still have a bunch of fighters on naval attack with low altitude and even lower training. We have also brought in some more dedicated naval attack aircraft with more on the way, but even the torpedo bombers on the carriers have not been launching so I don't know what will happen. We might have to send out swimmers to attach limpet mines.

• Pakse (just beyond Ubon) recons as empty right now, hopefully it will still be so in several days when we are ready for a para drop there.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

We crossed the river a day ahead of the enemy unit seeking to protect the rail line arrived in-hex, but they are blocking our objective hex 46 miles to the east, just SW of Vinh.

See Pakse just across the river from Ubon.

• Still no idea how strong is that unit ours paras are facing near Vinh. Armor and motorized heavy troops will be on scene tomorrow.

• The Chinese Army 6th New Corps, with 743 AV, is about two days from Pisanuloke. From there they will rail to Ayuthia, then march into Bangkok. While other units are en route to Bangkok, the 6th NC is the one we will wait for to resume ground assaults. Along with the additional infantry already in place plus the array of 5.5 inch and 7.2 inch guns and howitzers currently sighting in we should start reducing fortifications smartly.

• I'm guessing about a week until that para drop on Pakse.

Recon says 1,740 troops with 6 guns. Tomorrow we shall move them out of the way with 3,060 infantry, 7,398 second line troops, 33 engineers, 3 engineering vehicles, 82 guns, and 375 vehicles, many of those tanks.

• Yesterday recon showed 1 unit at Vinh, today recon shows 3. They know we are coming. Muhahahahahaha.

• If we manage to get the airborne invasion into Pakse in the next few days that might spread out their response.

• We have small torpedo bombers at Mergui, but I'm not sure if the size 1 airfield will support strikes.

• 1,683 AV at Bangkok, soon to swell to 3,000.

Size 2 for any offensive operations. Torpedo bombers only need size 2 - this would include LBAs such as the Bettys, Nells, et cetera.

I think you brought enough, but bombing the naval fort for a few weeks is required to suppress it during landing.

Been bombing for I don't even remember how long. No AAA anymore, for quite a while now, so I am sure they are out of supply too.

Probably out of their pixelated sanity as well.

But they probably have lots of small pieces of scrap iron around . . .

Yeah, they have terrain going for them too. Will at least be better than if I had landed long ago (when they were still in supply) and that will have to be good enough for me.

• It looks like enemy carriers and battleships are in the middle of the Sulu Sea, but we only have scouting of a small TF, so this assessment is based on the encounters of our sub line and the absence of the carriers and battleships at Manila.

• The Bde for Dadjangas is loading at Sorong. Perhaps they can be landed the next time KB is refueling.

• Jolo airfield was visited with more than 200 runway hits and other damage today.

• Cagayan airfield will be hit tomorrow.

• Now 5 units at Vinh with another seen approaching from the China side.

• In two days the para unit designated to seize Pakse will be unpacked at Moulmein and drop the day after.

• We've been building as we can to increase supply draw daily cap, usually beginning with fortifications because the first couple of levels are quicker to build than airbase size.

• Two para/SF Bdes will be in Luangprabang in about 4 days and should easily overwhelm the small unit there. That place has a size 4 airfield but the supply infrastructure is not great.

• In less than a week we will be ready to start reducing Bangkok's defenses.

• In less than a week two Bdes will be at Ubon to follow up the imminent para drop on Pakse.

• Moving lots and lots of units and supply.

They shall not hold!

Not sure how or if relevant, but they have almost 80,000 troops in Bangkok (trapped), 36 or 37 thousand in Saigon, additional northwest of there (Battambang and so on).

The mobile units only made 44 and 45 miles today, so will definitely cut the rail line tomorrow. The rail line from China will take much longer to menace. At least fortification building is stopped for now.

Overall

• A big day! For the Empire.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• CV Ticonderoga is departing Pearl in company of 6 destroyers for the Marianas.

Pacific

• The fleet carriers, recently arrived at Pagan from Pearl Harbor, will sortie to the west in case they can meet out frontier justice to the recidivist Imperials.

• The old battleships will accompany the fleet carriers to the degree they can keep up, but will shy away from range of air strikes. Several are due for AA upgrades.

• Five fast battleships which recently upgraded are a week out from Guam.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

DEI, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

• Good news and bad news. More of the latter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

• We destroyed almost all of their attack planes. They destroyed almost all of our attack planes. The tally on theirs:
B6N2 Jill: 52 seen, 57 destroyed.
B7A2 Grace: 52 seen, 64 destroyed.
D4Y2 Judy: 106 seen, 87 destroyed.

Search planes destroyed by CAP must account for the difference; both sides destroyed lots of search planes.

• The A7M2 Sam is a beast. We saw a total of 285 and destroyed 25.

• None of our carriers on scene is equipped with the F6F-5, only the -3 and, as you will see, a number of CVE there have Wildcats. Although our CV are up to date (no CVL on scene as I recall) many of these CVE still need their AA upgrade, so are easier targets.

• We lost one CVE so far, but the Empire gained 389 VP on the day, wiping out a couple of weeks of steady gains for us.

• We are sending tankers and such south, but our carriers and their surface escorts will stand firm. CVE Shah will head into Manado unless intercepted in the night. Winnie is pissed. All of our attack groups have been stood down. We should be able to withstand whatever the IJN carriers throw at us; they don't have much left, I think. Two more P-47 groups have been flown into Manado and all 5 groups there (3x P-47D2, 2x F4U-1A) will LRCAP the carriers.

• I don't know what to expect from the IJN. Surface attack? Sustained air attack? Withdrawal? How much are the damaged IJN carriers slowed by their damage? Not much, is my guess.

• There will soon be more than 20,000 troops in Vinh. One or more units is moving SW toward our units, probably to delay our movement into the city. Our motorized forces are heading east then will turn NW into the city while the infantry does move NE, straight into the advancing, er, defenders.

• One more day for the paras assigned to Pakse to finish unpacking, then they fly.

• In two days our forces will enter Luangprabang.

• The B-24's are keeping Vinh closed and sans further fortifications.

Given the slow speed of CVEs, I would bet on the IJN sending surface elements to try and intercept them. Their Admiral will know that your attack aircraft have shot their bolt and they may know that you do not have BB support with the CVEs. Best to figure out which route they will likely come and move several hexes from that path, I think.

Darn, Japan did well!

Your cap was low I think...

Sam is an amazing game changer for a while! And Grace is no slouch either!

Talk about a Bloody Tuesday!

Barry White was born that day.

American troops entered Germany for the first time in the war, it happened near Trier.

There are two TFs with a total of 3 fast BB, plus some cruiser TFs present. The one CVE heading for Manado with just a lone DD is most vulnerable.

Most fleet carriers now have the -5 Hellcat, but not those on scene. I have Hellcats on some CVE, with the CV and CVL upgrading to the -5 I'll fit out the rest of the CVE with the -3.

Are you using your Replenishment carriers in their intended role?

If so, you can quickly replenish the lost airframes, far more quickly than your opponent can.

If you are not using them in the intended role then you have no advantage over your opponent.

I think I may be the only player here who actually uses them as a replenishment resource.

No, I don't. Maybe I should give it a try sometime.

This situation is different anyway because many fleet carriers were just getting back to the Marianas after upgrades, and a whole slew of CVE are in upgrade right now. So basically in this case we needed them all to fight anyway.

Darn, Japan did well!

Your cap was low I think...

Sam is an amazing game changer for a while! And Grace is no slouch either!

Forgot to ask...

I've been pretty much leaving my carrier CAP at 10,000 ft. You think it should be higher?

I think you should to give them the dive bonus. I will sometimes set mine one or two thousand feet higher than the dive bombers. They should normally fly higher than the bombers on CAP anyway but you want them higher than the enemy fighters on escort.

You might want to keep some maneuverable ones down low if torpedo bombers are a bother. As the Japanese player early on before there are enough Zeros, I use the Claudes for this.

But Lowpe is much more the expert on this than I am.
