See im like Zakblood,i don't mind the nato symbols when they are combined with say either artwork or black/white pics.Surely you guys at Matrix got plenty of either in your archives?stick your nato symbol in the corner then:) just my opinion.

Hi,

keeping my fingers crossed Combined Arms will make it this time.

There is a plethora of fine wargames. With many of the classics and additions over the last few years we are hitting a new Golden Age.. of wargaming. Hope Combined Arms takes its place as one of them.

All the best,
Kip.

Hi gents,

Sorry for the lack of communication. We've been struggling with graphic issue due to GDI not performing as well under Win10 than XP and Seven. Solving this point turned as quite time consumming. The game also do some sort with units names for list tree/lists making reading more easy. The sort is not 100% efficient but still a great improvement. With the lastest order control mechanism code for both interface and game system are now in beta test state. AI and bug solving are now my main and only concern.

No screen shots for the order control thing, this is a mechanism that expand the delay for units in order to synchronize units movement. It allow players to link a given movement order to the control of a location by another units. Basically the translation in game term to a situation where say 1st Batallion will move to the forest then wait for the 3rd to clear a town before resuming movement to the hill.

the same problem with any game, same as hardware tbh, you test on a given platform and by the time it's developed everyone else has moved on, it's life, so nothing new, but trying to get old tech and o/s and new all work the same, it's more time consuming than most care to know, and most only think of one thing, when is it going to be ready etc etc, so good luck and will be here if needed when testing is starting

This has become an annual ritual for me. Go check the forum for Combined Arms just as a reminder of what could have been.

First post in this section of the forum. I have not followed all the history of this game. Is there a post or a thread summarizing its specification?

Thanks

In the Ancient Beforetimes of 1991 there was a series of WWII operational/strategic games called V4Victory (and WorldAtWar). For some of us, these games were perfection. This game here was advertised as a successor, and seemed to be just that from screenshots. Some of us still check every once in a while.

I myself have maintained a DOS machine in the basement for the last 20 years specifically to run these games. And MOO2.

Some of us still have hope. But it seems to be a fool's hope.

Same. I loved those games and was looking forward to an updated engine with this game. Is there still a market for this?

I had hopes for this game when I was part of the betatesting team...10 years ago.... ?

From what I remember, it was the AI that was the problem. Forget the AI, and release something.

Alternatively, I would love to see an updated W@W engine released.

I was on Beta Team too... from around 2003- 2009+/-, then just gave up. My recollection was that the AI was ok, not great but OK, and enough to make it workable. The game could easily be played by 2 real players. The map features, counters, etc. (many things that I worked on and made suggestions for) would make it to the Beta. Then it fell into a black hole - along with a few other games in Beta.

Ludo made some appearances here and there as did Erik, all insuring this was going to get made. One of the problems I am sure they encountered was that PC Operating Systems had changed SEVERAL TIMES in the span of the game development. At one point Ludo stated he would have to re-write the entire code because the old code was clunky or would not work well with new systems (I am paraphrasing this from recollection, so don't shoot me if I have some details incorrect).

Ironically - or coincidentally - many of the battles scenarios I worked on which had never been offered on any wargame AFAIK would make it to various iterations of Matrix Games. Mind you, as a Beta Tester, I was unpaid, a true labor of love. I spent much time and often money buying rare WW2 era maps to faithfully recreate accurately a scenario. I invested in numerous books to find the correct OOBs, etc. But a bit of a slap in the face to see one's work appear on other games without even the hint of a credit AFAIK. Again, coincidence?

That all aside, this game had a lot of promise, but it is dead. D-E-A-D. It does not make financial sense for a game company to provide a tool that lets you recreate ANY battle. TOAW being an exception.

Instead we have PanzerCorps 2, Decisive Campaings, WarPlan, Close Combat, etc. which are all "systems" that have little or no editor, and can have DLCs sold every few months - something that COMBINED ARMS would have allowed you to do for FREE>

So there you have it. GAME IS DEAD. In its place are other games+DLCs to make the most out of the fewer and fewer wargamers out there.

Sure, having been this long its tempting to call it dead. Its hard to remember when the beta was; as it was Before Children in my life.

From what I remember (cant find a playable build on my computer) the not-AI parts were fine. Get something out the door, I would think. I would pay for a we-go system. I cant think of anything else (other than the also dead W@W games) that is a good We-Go.
