ORIGINAL: gionpeters I had hopes for this game when I was part of the betatesting team...10 years ago.... ? From what I remember, it was the AI that was the problem. Forget the AI, and release something. Alternatively, I would love to see an updated W@W engine released. Mad Dog I was on Beta Team too... from around 2003- 2009+/-, then just gave up. My recollection was that the AI was ok, not great but OK, and enough to make it workable. The game could easily be played by 2 real players. The map features, counters, etc. (many things that I worked on and made suggestions for) would make it to the Beta. Then it fell into a black hole - along with a few other games in Beta. Ludo made some appearances here and there as did Erik, all insuring this was going to get made. One of the problems I am sure they encountered was that PC Operating Systems had changed SEVERAL TIMES in the span of the game development. At one point Ludo stated he would have to re-write the entire code because the old code was clunky or would not work well with new systems (I am paraphrasing this from recollection, so don't shoot me if I have some details incorrect). Ironically - or coincidentally - many of the battles scenarios I worked on which had never been offered on any wargame AFAIK would make it to various iterations of Matrix Games. Mind you, as a Beta Tester, I was unpaid, a true labor of love. I spent much time and often money buying rare WW2 era maps to faithfully recreate accurately a scenario. I invested in numerous books to find the correct OOBs, etc. But a bit of a slap in the face to see one's work appear on other games without even the hint of a credit AFAIK. Again, coincidence? That all aside, this game had a lot of promise, but it is dead. D-E-A-D. It does not make financial sense for a game company to provide a tool that lets you recreate ANY battle. TOAW being an exception. Instead we have PanzerCorps 2, Decisive Campaings, WarPlan, Close Combat, etc. which are all "systems" that have little or no editor, and can have DLCs sold every few months - something that COMBINED ARMS would have allowed you to do for FREE> So there you have it. GAME IS DEAD. In its place are other games+DLCs to make the most out of the fewer and fewer wargamers out there.
