How hard is it to mod these types of games? Is there a "how to" mod tutorial out there? I've always wanted to know how time consuming and hard it is.

Thanks

It depends on what you want to change. I can't say for scenarios. But if you just want to change individual art, like cities, it doesnt require a lot of time on itself, and it is not hard at all. If you want to make a full blown mapconversion like my own mod "generals mod", with new tileart, a whole new mapcolor, trees and everything. well, expect a few hundred hours. But I guess that depends on youre expectations and the level of quality youre going for.
Modding the map is a lot of trial and error, it can take a lot of time, but it is not difficult to do. You do need to know how to work with a photoeditor tho.

So, what is it you want to mod ?

Just unit art. Instead of a NATO counter for armor I'd want an image of a tank

Aha, well I have no experience with that sadly. But I can look it up later.

I am at work, so in no position to check, but I am pretty sure they are TGA files, and most certainly are moddable, as there are other examples already (like the Soviet Naval/Airborne Counters (and Ski) Mod )

If you just don't like NATO counter, the game comes with another set of counter showing image of a tank - see the picture enclosed. You can also draw your own set of counters. Any drawing software that supports TGA files will do.

I think you can find the files you want to mod in installfolder /dat/art/units/counter (and then choose zoomlvl)

it is quite easy one you get the ropes, you only need to alter the counteraaxaa.tga files (where tga are the different set for each zoom). you can evn have a different set for each level (i do myself) ,

If you like non-nato simbols there is a good mod in this same forum by kosmoface
non nato mod

Those are actually really nice and it looks like they can be used for WitW?

The author used ones made by himself for witw, I suppose they will be in that forum (I would guess the same ones will work btw).
