Since at least low level regime feats are easy to keep, but take some time to get, it often makes sense to deliberately get low-level feats from other profiles before focusing on your intended primary one, unless you plan to go particularly deep in it . I wanted to check what strategies people are going for in this regard. E.g. for me rather than just go for meritocracy, I can grab engaged politicians from democracy first, before switching to merito - 40% political bonus is very nice and recruit civilian card is a very good source of governors and occasionally directors - only takes a dozen turns or so to get and you'd be hard-pressed to lose it afterwards. Often meritocracy is a pain to raise at the start since your governor rolls are almost guaranteed to fail, and you don't need more unrest/danger when conquering nearby minors - though you do need half-decent money situation for it to work. Conversely, when going for demo in a world with large population, starting with meritocracy and grabbing Accomplished Envoys first can make sense - since plea of friendship card it unlocks greatly simplifies your diplomacy - and since meritocracy is harder to raise, starting with +15 makes it very easy to grab one perk than switch. Occasionally starting into fist for volunteerism and potentially war lust can make sense - a few militia cards make your militia relevant for significantly longer. It does delay getting the tech bonus, but at the start (particularly T3 start) you tend to focus on discovery first anyway, and with minors around you're prone to getting fist points that make mind profile occasionally tricky to maintain anyway. Grabbing bureaucracy first when going for commerce is rather straightforward - the BP bonus is good, medical teams are nice as well and government is harder to raise than commerce. Not sure if it makes sense to get state companies - you are likely to lose it eventually, but industry bonus is more important at the start, before you get your industries upgraded. The reverse is less straightforward - grabbing free market for the private economy bonus before switching to government can make sense, but since it's harder to switch from commerce to government (particularly with corporation around), it would delay some nice government cards. There can also be a case for getting to Wealthy Friends, spreading some estates and commercial gifts around, and then switching to government later on without keeping anything besides free market. Some government bonuses like worker happiness tend to be a bigger issue later on, however switching from advanced commerce to government can be nigh-impossible with entrenched corporation. Alternatively grabbing Discipline from enforcement for the tax bonus can make sense before switching to either of the other two.
