I posed a question on Twitter about what El Dorado Canyon would look like if it took place 10 years later, and after a bit of discussion on it, I decided to go ahead and do it. This is built off my original El Dorado Canyon scenario but there are some differences.

The goal of my original scenario was to recreate the original strike in as much detail as possible, then add special actions to modify it. Not beholden to any historical accuracy with this variant I've taken a different direction with the design. Most of the special actions have been or will be in the future rolled into a random roll at the beginning of the scenario. In short, this one has less player choice and more you having to carry out the operation with the assets your given, not the ones you want.

Randomization at the start in this version includes; 75% chance of overflight of France or Spain, 2 different strike options; 1) 2 carriers and USAF, 2) 1 carrier and beefed up USAF force. For the option with two carriers the second US carrier is randomized between the Enterprise and JFK. Enterprise will give you another squadron of A-6Es, the JFK will have the second USN strike element consisting of F/A-18Cs. Each USAF F-15E flight will have a chance to be replaced with F-117s. USAF strike assets will also have a chance to have a randomized starting AB.

Looking forward to the comments and critique.

8/3/2021 - Beta 3 Update 1:
• Fixed time triggers.

8/2/2021 - Beta 3:
• Added second US strike option. Historically there was only one carrier (George Washington) in the Mediterranean in April of 1996. Strike option 2 is one US carrier with a beefed up USAF strike force. New USAF forces are based out of Aviano in Italy. Scenario will randomly choose between the two options when the scenario is first loaded. Randomization is leaned slightly towards strike option 2.
• Added randomized chance that USAF strike wave 1 or 2 will be rebased to Aviano AB in Italy. Historically, the 48th FW had a forward presence at Aviano or Incirlik for most of the 90s. USAF Tankers are not randomized.
• Added randomized chance for each F-15E flight to be replaced with F-117s.
• Removed spare aircraft RTB event. With the randomized rebasing, getting this to work is too much of a headache.

Hi Kushan

Got a script error that appears every minute.

Lua script execution error: [string "USA_SpareAircraftRTB_F-15E"]:12: '}' expected (to close '{' at line 10) near ''LUJAC 22''

Thanks!

Good catch. Forget a few commas. Updated the link with a version that should fix it.

Completed this with no losses! A first for me with EDC. Granted there was a lot of luck involved in producing that result; for instance, two F-15E's were hit by AAA fire and caught on fire, but both managed to extinguish it. Lack of losses wasn't the only rarity: the Libyan AF decided to make an appearance, and thus four hapless SU-22s were massacred by F-14s. Final score was 4525 (Triumph). Losses and expenditures appended to the end. Log files attached.

In terms of substantive feedback, I don't really have much to say. The previous iterations of EDC were already superb, and it doesn't seem that any flaws creeped into this version that would detract from that prior assessment. One suggestion I do have is to consider having the F-15's set to their mandatory loadouts. Considering that 1) the air-to-air threat is minimal; 2) maximizing range is important in this mission (particularly if the player gets really unlucky and doesn't get overflight rights for France or Spain); 3) reducing the aircraft's weight helps it in the weapon endgame calculations (at least I assume that's what "weight fraction" means), I think that the downsides of having AMRAAMs outweigh the benefits. On the other hand, IIRC, you can change aircraft loadouts to mandatory without resetting the ready timer, so perhaps this is something better left up to the player.

The only other comments I have are some exceedingly minor issues within the mission briefing and messages. You may well have been planning to update some of these in a later version, but regardless here's a brief list:

-date in briefing references 1986
-CINCSAC referenced in briefing (presumably the tankers came from SAC in the 1986 operation?). Since from what I understand SAC was disbanded in 1992, this should presumably reference a different commander (perhaps the head of Air Mobility Command?)
-a special message referenced A-6's from Enterprise, but Enterprise was not present in my playthrough (JFK instead)
-in Special message at 142006z, America and Coral Sea still referenced

That's all from me. This scenario was a blast to play and is an excellent continuation of your EDC saga!

Posted Beta 2. I'm happy with where things are so now I can begin working on adding in some really fun stuff.

Beta 3 will reintroduce the F-117s as a randomized option and have a chance at rebasing some of the F-15Es, or F-117s, to Aviano. I may include a chance at facing a beefed up Libya (newer export model Russian equipment) in this beta but if not that will come later.

Beta 4 will add in the second strike option; 1 carrier with a beefed up USAF strike force.

Yes; you can remove, but not add, optional weapons without changing the ready times. I agree its best left up to the player to remove them, so I left the loadouts as is.

Most of these should be fixed in Beta 2. Lots of reorganizing going on in the 90s so possible I missed something. At some point I am going to be redoing the briefing but the modified '86 one will work for now.

Interesting concept.

Something that I think would have been different in the 90s, judging from similar flare-ups in that era, would be the use of cruise missiles. Perhaps this operation would even have been exclusively Tomahawks fired from warships, similar to Operation Infinite Reach, etc.-though that is certainly not quite as interesting/entertaining of a scenario.

Coiler had the same idea and we talked a little about it. While I agree the use of Tomahawks would be higher in 96 over 86 (probably be used for certain actually) using Tomahawks defeats the purpose of the scenario, and from a scenario design point of view a Tomahawk only option wouldn't be that much fun.

I may eventually add an option to use a few Tomahawks but I want to add other things in first.

• Added randomized chance for each F-15E flight to be replaced with F-117s.

Posted a small update that fixes all the time triggers. I forgot to change them from 1986 to 1996. Oops.
