I have a single 34" LG Split Screen Monitor set for single screen function, and the WitP-AE game keeps trying to split the map right down the center, by dragging hexes until so many accumulate it all snaps back (in a manner of speaking), and this hex rippling effect makes the game difficult to play. Movement vertically has no issue, only horizontally. Anyone ever encounter this problem before? Can you help me fix this issue?

See the thread on "Slow Response" and read about switches necessary to get the old game engine to work with modern CPUs, Video Cards and Monitors. Oh, and Win10 too!

Your problem can probably be fixed with the -deepColor switch. Others reported similar issues and the right switch combo fixed them.

Thanks for responding. Perhaps I should have added that I'd been there, done that, got the T-Shirt and the hat. I do not have a slow response issue, and added -deepColor to the switch along with a couple of other helpful items but my UNIQUE issue persists. Tech boys couldn't figure it out and suggested I come here seeking anyone else who has had this PARTICULAR thing occur. Btw, you all gearing up for WIN 11 coming in OCT?!

NOT! We will resist as long as possible! Only reason I got Win10 is that my hard drive crashed and getting a new SSD and OS meant only Win10 was available. Fortunately the forum had figured out all the quirks that needed adjusting and they are in that thread I mentioned.
There may have been a Win10 setting regarding transparency of windows that had issues for the game. Basically, transparency was causing bleedthrough or swapping of dominance between the game window and what is under it.

I do not have an LG monitor in front of me to test, but as far as I can tell, LG achieves the split screen feature via the 'OnScreen Control' software. It is likely this software which is causing the graphics glitch with AE.

The easiest thing to test would be to completely exit said software while playing the game. You can always restart the software afterwards to regain the split screen feature. If you do not know how to exit the LG software, I would suggest looking for an icon in the task tray (near the clock in the lower-right portion of the screen). Then right-click the icon and look for an exit/quit option.

As for Windows 11, I'm keeping a wide berth from it until it has been 'out in the wild' for some time. Microsoft fired all of their Windows QA people several years back and have been using the customer base as guinea pigs ever since. I also suggest avoiding any new feature updates to Windows 10 and installing the security-focused patches only.

Thank You for the suggestions. I was unable to "exit" or turn off the monitor settings (no option available, and exit did not do it). The Split screen feature has on single screen option (best choice) and it's on that selection. Due to the way it's interacting I suspected it was the monitor's interference but can't see any way to alter it. Be nice to post pics as it would go real far to explaining in far greater detail, but I digress, and thank you again for your assistance.

P.S. Win 11 will "allow" (welcome to the Corporatocracy) us to use Win 10 till mid 2025. Furthermore, PC's with hardware older than a certain point will be ineligible to download Win 11 even if they fully meet system requirements (or something to that effect). In-other-words, there will be a cutoff date in order to boost PC and PC hardware sales. Damn monopolies!

Just a couple of suggestions come to mind.

1. Are you playing a full map or a limited playing area scenario? I have seen the screen jumping around whilst scrolling when the displayed area is bigger than the scenario playing area. Solution is to expand the playing area of the scenario to larger than the screen display using the editor (a rather brutal solution) or simply reducing the resolution of the screen/window to less than the scenario playing area.

2. The game is old and it cannot even handle being displayed on a second monitor (won't update). Another possible solution could be to embed the game in a modern window which should be be more compatible to the LG software by using the DxWnd utility suggested on other Tech Support threads for similar display issues.

(Voltreffer: Interesting how these issues are coming up at once.)

Let us know how you get on.

Edit: Grammar...

I'm still running AE under Win8.1 on hardware that originally shipped with WinXP!!

As above the update was only forced by a hard drive replacement... (Please don't ask how I managed to install the hardware drivers which were not supported in any form by Win8)
