Good point RJ - I drink a lot of water and I can feel it when I am not keeping up. A couple of Turkey days ago our neighbors were partying a little too hard and the dad of one of them (the wife, who in a really small world grew up in my neighborhood in Boston and went to the same high school and lives across the street now. In NY state). Anyway, emergency vehicles show up and for whatever reason they cannot take the dad to the ER. The hubby wants to drive and I am like no way dude, I will drive (I had only had a single glass of vino that day). But we have made it a point not to drive on holidays when you are fairly certain some folks will be 'impaired'. We used to host New Years parties and the rule was you could drink as much as you wanted but everyone had to sleep over. No exceptions. Just too many people out there who party a little too hard on holidays who cannot hold their booze.....

Plus one. I used to drink to have some fun, but never drove during the festivities. I can't drive or drink now. Head injury at work. But I have seen enough stupid people in public who went way beyond their quota for the day....GP

I was behind someone the other day who was all over the road and driving 30 in a 45. So I suspected either booze, drugs, or mobile phone. But I kept well back so my car didn't get trashed if they lost it.

Help save them and others, take a video while calling 911. It would be better if you had a passenger do that for you and others.

I am reminded of a time when a National Park in system news blubs stated something for Lake Mead where "The Fourth of July started with a blast as a houseboat blew up!"

No passenger and I don't touch my phone while driving. The two newer cars have the hands free set-up but I tend to drive my old 1988 Saab - no hands-free there. I guess one could use earbuds but my hearing is bad enough without plugging more stuff into my ears.

My apartment overlooks one of the main roads in Winnipeg and the nearby hotel has a separate beer vendor building. Even at the height of the pandemic, just before closing every night there is a steady stream of vehicles pulling in to get beer. I find it hard to believe that they just want that for their personal consumption while watching TV very late at night!

A high percentage of our road deaths/injuries are driven by alcohol abuse. So are the hit and run incidents where they manage to catch the perps. If the offending drivers manage to kill themselves, you can write it off as Darwin Awards mistakes. But often the victims are innocents.

My own method of dealing with alcohol when invited out for dinner is to drink one or two glasses of wine early on, then drink water to keep hydrated for a couple of hours while the alcohol burns off. Never get a headache that way and enjoy the evening just fine.

Good for you! Trying to fumble with a cell phone while driving is just not safe. Dash cams have become quite affordable and many people use them to help in insurance cases where another driver causes them to get into an accident. Judging by the YouTube videos I see of traffic accident compilations, Russia has many terrible drivers and a lot of the better ones have one or two dashcams to support their stories. Having one aimed at the back is also useful for the overall picture.

If I am out at dinner 2-3 drinks is the limit (depends on how long dinner is), and the wait staff sometimes get annoyed with me because I will likely ask them for about 6 pints of water over the course of a dinner. One of the sad things about drunk drivers is statistically they are more likely to survive than folks in other cars or their passengers since they don't tend to 'stiffen up' before impact, more relaxed and therefore more flexible than others.

Well, this day has been disturbed by a bunch of clowns playing music outside. It scares the cats.

2 of our dogs hate fireworks - so they have had a rough weekend. The other three could care less. Our neighbor likes his music loud but has been pretty well mannered this weekend.

Gun shy dogs - are they of a hunting breed?

This was a local clown band - there were just too much noise and people outside for them to look at. The do run to the windows with a vehicle with sirens can be heard, they also go watch people mow the lawn, blow snow, but they especially like the UFOs.

Which reminds me, I probably should clean the bird feeder and put it back outside.

No - not hunting dogs, one Labradoodle, one Havenese, two Pekingnese, One we think mostly poodle mutt. the lab is like 58 pounds, the rest could be bird food. All less than 20 lbs. But nice to have a pack. A haven't fired a rifle in 30 years and am having a hard time convincing the wife unit that having one around wouldn't be the worst thing in the world....

Worth a shot. Bad pun. My sister just got her concealed carry permit in Massachusetts of all places. I would like a long gun, not much interest in handguns. I need a rifle to have a chance of hitting the target.

A Labradoodle is a combination of a Labrador and a Poodle - both of which are hunting dogs.

Right. My brother's standard-bred poodle (the big ones) hunted down the beef roast that was cooling on the kitchen counter and took it down with prejudice!
