Certainly I don't, he's already gotten various good airplanes 'full-early'. So many good targets.

I can't be certain, but in mouse-overs it looks to me as though there are fewer fighters over Tokyo. Not that it's a good target right now, but that indicates the defense is spreading out.

� We lost 2 subs today in that melee. Shallow water in the later game against first rate warships is a tough place for a sub to operate.

� The Bde at Victoria Point will rest a day before attacking again, but cruisers will bombard tonight.

� Our troops at Bangkok will recover as needed. Finally getting the fortifications down to 1 feels great. I might wait for the next assault until an additional division finished marching to the rail line and then on to Ayuthia. One of the tank units is knackered and will move to Ayuthia to recover. I have already coopted the two tank units in Ayuthia to recover and sent them on to Vinh. But, when the new division arrives I will send to partially recovered divisions with it from Ayuthia back into Bangkok.

� I did not expect to capture Vinh just yet, and the casualties inflicted are most gratifying! The troops all need to recover disruption and more. Two tank units are already on the way in from the Bangkok area to help push the offensive through the Hanoi area.

� Some IJ support units are trapped between Vinh and Hue and are now being reduced. Afterward, the 3 Bdes engaged in this will move on Hue and Tourane.

� We have moved long range naval search for the northern part of the South China Sea from Rangoon to Udon Thani. We have both day and night coverage in an arc which passes Swatow, and day coverage in an arc which reaches Foochow and passes through Formosa.

� Bad weather is hampering recon of recent targets. Rain is forecast tomorrow but too few of the B-29's are ready anyway.

That Irving is a night fighter, if I recall correctly it will have radar at some point. The Judy 4 can carry 800kg bombs. The port and airfield are not build up, forts are probably minimal, Hamamatsu is vulnerable to airbase attacks as well as low level city bombing. There is probably minimal AAA there as well. Of course, you probably could bombard it with your surface fleets . . .

What do you guys think about Tokyo as a night target? Even though more dangerous is there more payback because of the concentration of targets (within the game results, I mean)? Altitude recommendation?

Tokyo's base and port are built up, if there are forts there will be balloons. So you probably want to stay above 6k feet but then fighters and flak will bite. If you can mass enough bombers with spares since the defense may be concentrated there, then it could be worth it. Otherwise, keep hitting the lower hanging fruit but once that is gone, then any defensive units can relocate.

That's a remarkably easy invasion at Truk. It may be the most straightforward I've seen - typically the CD guns do a fair bit of damage to the amphibs...

I will double check, but it is either urban light or urban heavy. I seem to remember urban light. Getting the 2 to 1 (with 0 fortifications) will still be a pain, which is why I'm bringing in more infantry. It's just that with all the fortified centers the Allies have to assault during the remainder of the game I hate to take lots of destroyed squads due to throwing units with high disabled squad counts into combat.

Due to temporarily bypassing Truk for the Marianas invasions and the Iwo Jima invasion, there was a VERY extended period of base bombing which seemed to destroy what I am sure was an enormous supply stockpile.

So you want to hit Tokyo...definitely go manpower.

When assigning altitudes look at the bottom of the screen, and select some of the first squadrons from left to right to hit high, say 20k, and then gradually reduce the altitude to 8k across all bomber squadrons. Try to get 50% of bombers to be hitting from 12k and lower.

I still think you could pull off a good daylight attack and that would make night time raids even more effective...the Ha45 engines at Hamamatsu for example. Only 92 fighters, of which how many are on night duty?

Even Yoko a manpower attack there only slightly more fighters but a more diverse target for VP...

What is unknown is if he has set up bleeding CAP. Check plane fatigue before doing daylight, as you will have to fight thru...but I bet you would catch him off guard. An old JFB trick is to put 100-200 Nates or Claudes at base and just rely upon Allied intel to chose less well defended targets.

On a daylight raid you want good coordination, same HQa, same altitude, low fatigue.

I have air HQ's at all the bases, but I never bother with assigning squadrons to air HQ's. �\_(ツ)_/�

Oh I still plan to do a daylight point target, I was just wondering whether Tokyo is a good night candidate before I get all the additional B-29 squadrons that arrive over the next few months.

Why vary the altitude of the bombers like that? Does it affect flak or fighters? Did you mean that only for daylight or also for night?

For Night bombing I think you can play with at least two broad tactics at this range:

1. Multiple waves that seek to exhaust the CAP and allow the final, lowest altitude waves bomb without being intercepted. Staggering the altitude with hopefully early attacks higher than normal will help to fragment the attack and also help to exhaust the CAP. Well, that is the idea.

2. The largest, best coordinated attack possible. Get as big a box as possible flying in, very good in heavily defended areas as it will maximize your fighter kills.

As you get more assets closer you can really start to add lots of tactics to enhance bombing. Now you could try some very long range Corsair sweeps tied to daytime bombing raid.

Just getting one level 2 air base within fighter range really changes the options and anything you can do to stretch the Japanese fighters out the better off you are.

As always your tactics should support your overall goal for bombing whether it is supply deprivation or farming VP or something else.

My opinions...I am sure there are other ideas!
