Being a business owner, and having bought another practice a couple years ago, my playing time has been severely limited and I've forgotten a lot of details. For example:

I want to send some air units out to pick up troops, but the option is not available to them (it's in white, but without a selection button). Naturally, this mission isn't mentioned at all in the manual. Can someone remind me what I'm forgetting?

With the air unit in troop transport mode, select destination. The game will present the map in the general area where the air unit is. Click on a valid destination hex where you wish to fly out troops. Then in the air unit menu click on pick up troops. Pick which unit you want air-transported.

Troop transport mode normally being "combat". Bomber units do not transport troops ("flying boats", PBYs, etc. do). The actual ground unit should not be restricted to go to the area you mean to take it to. It must be within the proper range of the transport planes. You can "transport" or "pick up" troops. Above advice concerns both.

I am sure there are other items of concern, too - or variations. Other members shall surely join in on it. Good luck!

Yes - set up a transport to the "destination" first, then switch mission too pick up troops - you should then be able to click through the troops at the base to the unit you want to collect.

Note - restricted units can be picked up from/delivered to a restricted base if they are being taken to a base of same restriction - e.g. restricted NEI troops can be picked up and flown back to Java. However, once you are operating your transports from/to unrestricted bases, you need an unrestricted unit to set the destination before switching mission to pick-up. I'm not sure if there is another way to get it set up in those circumstances.

Nonsense.

It is detailed on page 152 in the paragraph which starts with the words "Troop Transport" and continues for another 9 sentences. Additional details provided starting in s.7.2.4 titled "Troop and Supply Transport" on page 170.

I have never found one.

This typically comes into play for the Allies when using Dutch flying boats to evacuate British units from Singapore.
There has to be at least one unrestricted LCU at the base the Dutch boats are flying from in order to able to target Singapore with an Air Transport mission before switching over to Pick Up Unit.

Switch from sending supplies to picking up troops.

Well, I knew it had to be there somewhere -- but the section on "Air Unit Information Screen" (the page 152 reference) isn't a logical place if you're looking at the table of contents for the first time in years. But thanks for the information!

I did find the page 170 mention, but that's all it is: a mention that it can be done.

Thanks, all. It was the order of things (Troop Transport ... Set Target ... Pick Up Troops) that I was missing.

I'll have to try that. Does it let you pick up a restricted unit and move it to an unrestricted base?

The base must be available to the restricted unit. So an air unit on Baker can't fly out the ground unit on Ocean until the restricted unit is freed.

Physical searches of the manual can be frustrating, but there's an easy solution: Open the pdf Manual and use the search function. I always find what I'm looking for, and much of it doesn't even appear in the hard copy index. It took a while to break the "paper manual" habit, but once you do, you'll never go back.
