This is posted simply because few games ever get this far.... All credit to Mike who took this on when my previous opponent folded way back when I took the Aleutians and left him no room to sail his shiny carriers. The game was reported up until September in our two AARs, but officially it ended when I was 2 days late in getting a 2:1 and victory at the end of August 1945. We played on to explore how useful A bombs were (they aren't) and if I could finish off the Empire. Four assaults, daily bombing and finally throwing 23 plus divisions at the defences took the city and left me just mopping up to do.

Final combat report.....

Ground combat at Tokyo (114,60)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 481804 troops, 8729 guns, 11201 vehicles, Assault Value = 18093

Defending force 152134 troops, 1567 guns, 276 vehicles, Assault Value = 2912

Allied engineers reduce fortifications to 2

Happy to answer any questions if I can, the game had started when AE was released, so it has been chugging away at its own pace and became a way of life for me.

Now what are you going to do now that the game is over?

BTW, the Americans did capture part of the Tokyo prefecture during February and March of 1945.

But, knowing what you know now, would you have tried to destroy all of the units in the Pacific if you could have left just part of them on an island so they could not be rebuilt?

Final date was 9 Nov 1945. Each assault put my forces into the 80's for disorganisation and fatigue so it needed loads of downtime in between. I also ended up having to ship some fresh divisions from the WC to be sure of the final assault.

There were loads of ares where there were Japanese troops just sat and I left them there deliberately. However I do find it 'interesting' that some of the stacks in China, despite being a year plus out of supply still were combat effective the odd time I tested them just for fun.

It is with a sense of regret that it came to an end. It has been a feature of my life through the good times and the bad times over a decade. Nothing compares to this game. At pushing 69 I cannot envisage another game of it but it is going to leave a massive hole in my thinking. I have loads (as have most people I think) of other games but none of them ever comes close to this one.

It was hard enough to take out the stuff in Tokyo, the thought of all those other respawned units there as well, fighting with just their fingernails......

No it was far better that a lot of them were grubbing for rice in the paddyfields of China, or eating lizards on some far flung atoll, or sat behind defences in the extremes of the HI
