I'm trying to make sense of the information in the "Items tab" at the bottom, which I think is meant to account for the flow of items/resources into and out of each zone.

Just to pick one of the zones in my current game as an example, in turns 51 and 52 it gave the following information for Food:

Turn 51 - Prod: +309, In: 0, Cons: 0, Out: 815, Stock: 459
Turn 52 - Prod: +311, In: 0, Cons: 0, Out: 826, Stock: 63

This doesn't seem to add up. In turn 52 it sent 826 food to SHQ, which need to come from somewhere. But from what is shown, only 396 came from the stocks, and 311 from what is called "Prod" here (246 from farms, 65 delivered by zone militia) which adds up to 707. This leaves 119 food which was sent to SHQ after coming from an unknown source.

All of my zones seem to have the same thing happen from turn to turn, consistently. From my 7 zones, I'm getting a total of around 600 bonus food each turn that isn't produced anywhere that shows up under "Prod." Does anybody have any idea what's going on?

Are you in the Meritocracy regime feat tree? One of their early regime feats gives bonus food production based on population. Not sure whether that'll show up under production in the zone inventory or not.

The Economic cycle is:
- SHQ to Zones
- SHQ to units
- Zone consumption
- Zone production
- Zones to SHQ
- Replacements

This even applies for stuff like Credits.

It is important to know that you need the resources in Zone or SHQ storage when you hit End turn. Production is way to late to be used-

Yep, Capable Supervisors. Mystery solved. Thank you very much.

I hope you dont mind me piggy-backing an unrelated question here about Meritocracy.

How can i get more events related to meritocracy? Initially in my game i was able to get it up to 80+, but then the events slowly started to shift away and its nwo down to 25... i dont ever get any decisions again that boost Meritocracy. Anything i can do to get certain type of decisions to boost one way or another?

The events nearly entirely random.
There is some fringe cases - some diplomacy events buff a profile based on a who you are interacting with. But those are rare.

Otherwise there are the scrap cards, which come in flavors for each profile. But nothing remotely reliable either.

However dropping from 80 to 25 seems like you made a serious mistake - treating Autocracy to casual.
Never pick a profile that supresses your target profile. It just will not work.
Throwing in the odd democracy choice during a Meritocracy playthrough? Yeah, that works. Merit takes a bit of damage supressing Democracy, but nothing worth worrying about.
Picking Autocratic choices? Heck no.

At this point it sounds like you are playing a autocrat based on your decisions.

The most reliable Meritocracy boost is the option to talk down the protesters when you get protests or riots, but it requires a successful Oratory roll by the governor or it will increase unrest. I think that event can pop up if population happiness in a city is below 60 or so.

Note that you don't want worker happiness to drop, because the event for worker strikes doesn't offer a Meritocracy option, and the Oratory roll's difficulty is affected by the worker happiness too. City loyalty will drive the roll difficulty down too, so it's pretty easy to pass if you can engineer the event to happen in an otherwise happy and loyal city. You still probably want a governor or an advisor on hand with at least some Oratory skill, though.

Hmmm...

My Meritocracy is at 27 atm, the Autocracy is actually at 19, with Democracy at 81. This "drop" in Meritocracy happened over some 20 turns. I just dont quite understand why it stopped giving me options in decisions to improve it.

All my people are happy - i rarely get strikes. One group demanded i raise Meritocracy to 40, which i gladly said yes to, hoping i would get events/decisions to boost it - but sadly i had to disappoint them :-D

No i dont - but i suspected something was happening. Thanks for the 'keyword' - i just looked it up in the manual.

But how come when i had 80 meritocracy, it didn't supress the others.. and i just stopped getting events/decisions to keep it up :-/

The events and supression have nothing to do with one another.

Supression works like this:
- any 2 profile scores from the same group can only sum up to 100
- if the sum is higher, they both decay. But the one doing teh supressing is taking much less damage

Meanwhile events auto-balance by giving you less increases the higher the value is. Vic calls that "inverse" increase.
