China

This has been a very quiet sector for some time. I welcomed this so troops could redeploy. The apparent quiet of Mengtze is broken this day by 119 Japanese bombers plus fighters hitting the town's garrison of three units.

From the south, along the trail, a short afternoon bombardment by two Japanese Infantry Division's artillery awaken the Chinese to their true danger. A Deliberate Attack nets a 5-1 vs Forts-3 and the Chinese are driven from the base. Japan loses 357 Casualties for 1540 Chinese and 5 Guns.

A new vector opens in the China War.

From the North, the Japanese 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions, plus three TK Reg, destroyed a Chinese Corps and now they move southwards to tackle a second lone Corps. From there, the drive southwards shall gain strength, steam and speed.

The mobile, large portion of China's Army sits bogged down in Burma. They are nowhere near to help...

43/1/3: I have noticed in Babes that surface and cv tfs no longer can move range 18 at full speed. seems they can move 9 regular and then +4 if full speed is activated, for a maxfull speed range of 13.

I would guess they may go 18 if reaction range 6 is activated.

I noticed my CV tf did move a full move this turn, they may be slow because sometimes I have transport tfs following a cv tf.

Yes, Way To Fly but in this case it may have been Way To Fuel - at least for the escorts!

Thanks for the comments. The implication of Ranger Joe comment is the transports are sucking fuel from the CVTFs if "set to follow?"

How about the DDs and escorts sucking fuel from the larger ships - which was done historically.

Japanese Damage Control

One of the things that I try really, REALLY work on is saving Japanese cripples. As we know, Japanese damage can well and TRULY suck! Earlier in the war, CVL Zuiho took a pair of TTs in the Aleutians. In a miracle, she got to port, put out the fires ad started repairs. Moved an R there and things really started looking better. The CVL (six weeks later) moved out and hugged the islands before slowly (Speed 10 Knots) reaching the Home Islands and going into the yard. A total of seven months passed from when she was hit to when she, just now, returned to the Fleet. Good story.

Another good result was the recent events of CV Hiryu taking two Torps and making it to port at Kwajalein. The Hiryu-Class are notorious for being VERY brittle. Though damage was slowly accumulating, I elected to pass by the outer Marshalls and dock at Kwajalein. A Naval HQ was there and, though it was a risk, it paid off handsomely. The turn after she disbanded flooding dropped 50% and she was taken out of immediate danger. NICE!

In the OPPOSITE direction was CA Myoko. The CA was recently hit by 7 1,000lb bombs. She limped into port and disbanded. Heavy SYS damage and fires. I transported a naval HQ there in three days--fires kept burning. Three days after that an AR arrived. The fires kept burning. Four days after that, last turn, she SANK. STUPID!

Two good stories and one bad.

Always remember, for saving ships, Port Size, Naval Support (read HQ), and ARs Normally, these shall work.

My .02..

Not sure about naval support from the HQ, but the AR probably did not get a chance to help since ships cannot enter repair with fires burning. 7x 1,000 pounders is pretty extreme for a cruiser!

Concur.

The ship entered Port at SYS 81 and Fires 31. The fires lowered down to about 15 for FIVE-SEVEN days and the crew simply couldn't put them out. Saw the SYS creep up a point or two a day until it finally was burnt out hulk...

I’ve had more (anecdotal) success with fire when keeping it in a docked TF rather than the port, with many other shops to help it out, though with Japan, sometimes nothing you can do matters!

The loss of seven AO six weeks ago was a solid blow to Japan's carrier and fleet mobility. Now, six of those lost AOs, are replaced with conversions of six large TK in Singapore. The conversions took a little over a month and they are now loaded with fuel.

Time get back east ASAP!

Don't like taking them out of the fuel hauling mission that they have been engaged in since the start of the war but it is a strategic necessity.

In '43, it is now a tactical decision. You just want to go hunting, Admiral.

Though this is a two-sided AAR, I thought readers might be interested in Japanese aerial fighter production for mid-January 1943:

Imperial Japanese Navy
A6M2 150
A6M3 70
REX 40

In this Mod there are no other A6M models. NO JACK as well. Japanese Fighters jump directly to the original SAM with its under-powered engine due in very late 1943. The Mod notes describe the gradual improvement of the SAM until its final version that players may be familiar with.

I like using Float Fighters as well so many of the Japanese FP groups upgrade to PETE--RUFE--REX. This adds some limited low-level Fighter cover.

Imperial Japanese Army
TOJO IIa 180
TONY Ia 60
OSCAR IIa 25

This is current production as of January 13, 1943.

Getting a cripple home having holed her up in some atoll is one of those micro battles that become all consuming within the wider game. I ended up having to create a whole infrastructure at Laysan island to get an absolutely hammered Wasp back home

And yes I felt so chuffed when she made it
