If anyone is interested here is the link to download the Squad Leader mod as well as a link to download the weapons mod which replaces the original Heavy machine gun for the Germans with the MG42 (it's graphic only, no changes to values).

Make sure you back up the original files as always.

If anyone would like a custom leader name I'd be happy to do that as well, just PM me with which leader you would like the name to replace. Also this is not my original artwork and is provided strictly to be used as a personal modification only.

Enjoy and if anyone has any ideas for changes let me know.

Very interesting. It strikes e that you could use your SS mod a Stormtroopers in a Starwars mod.The Americans could be the rebels. The only enhancements needed would be to change graphics and names to represent weapons and vehicles. Values would not need changed. Only names and graphics. Although the sound would not be quite right?

Just shows what modding potential the game has.

I'm happy people are enjoying the mod, it brings back great memories for myself. I don't have the time or space to get my ASL fix so this is a nice way to enjoy the simplicity of the game system yet get some of the old school art flavor that takes me back.

I didn't even think of that but you are right, the SS do look like Star Wars Stormtroopers, great observation. They are actually as the SS were depicted in the second SL gamette "Cross of Iron" which I think was somewhat controversial and most people didn't care for the extreme contrast. They eventually became the same as all German infantry in the ASL adaptation and I thought about tweaking another version if people preferred that instead.

Making a Star Wars mod I can easily see, tan rebels, black Imperial troops, AT-AT's, snow maps of Hoth, sounds coo coo crazy but my Star Wars days are behind me. Of course nothing says you can't take the ball and run with it.

Very many thanks for this mod, Monkie - it just shows how iconic those graphics are - they really bring the game alive for me although that's probably due to years of playing squad leader
Having said that, the game's stock graphics are really good too!

For the counters you will need to paste the units.png file into:

(Drive Letter):\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Valor and Victory\assets\counters\units

remember to backup the original units.png just in case.


If you decide to add the support weapons mod it's also in the same directory but under

(Drive Letter):\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Valor and Victory\assets\counters\supportweapons

Hope that helps.

The default Steam install folder is simply "Steam", not "SteamLibrary". But the rest applies exactly as Monkie described it.
