I'm struggling to get my head around measuring how I'm doing on the truck front. Clearly this is something vital to get right.

Speaking from the Soviet perspective in this case, how do you judge the health of your truck force - ie helping decide how many tank corps / mech units you can/should build?

For example, in 1942 what represents a healthy of number of trucks in the pool? If you have 20k trucks in the pool, and 20k repairing, does that mean you've got 20k of trucks to play with, whether that's through building units or running depots?

Is there a rule of thumb number of trucks its good to aim to have in the pool as a safety net? ie should you always try to have x amount in the pool, but to make sure you don't let that number get too big cos it would represent a waste of potential units you could run with those trucks?

What are the warning signs that should make you think you've got troubles ahead on the truck front? When your pool drops below x amount?

Look at the production screen. In 1941 you should always have more trucks in your units than are required. In 1942, you can run a slight deficit as you build armor forces, but anything more than a 10-15k deficit will start to lead to problems elsewhere.
