Later on that fateful day as they head towards the drift Stacking boxes, fortify, preparations must be swift Spears and shields of oxen hide facing uniforms and guns As the rifles fire, echoes higher, (beating) like the sound of drums - Rorke's Drift - Sabaton This LIVE scenario calls back to the times of colonial skirmishes where superior tactics, training, and equipment beats numbers every time. While playing as the French-backed Chadians, I was shocked to see just how much of a hair's thread my forces were hanging by and how badly outnumbered and outgunned I was. The only thing that could level the playing field would be a pre-emptive strike on Sudanian airfields with SCALP EG cruise missiles but those airfields were being covered by HQ-9 batteries and there's no way the Chinese air defense operators would do something so blindingly idiotic as to not turn on their radars right? Right? Well then, this just got considerably easier! I immediately kicked things off by launching all of my cruise-missile carrying Rafales from the Charles de Gaulle to shut down Port Sudan, Wadi Seidna, Khartoum, and El Obeid. I also got to work shooting down some Chinese MPAs that thought it was a good idea to try to buzz a carrier with AWACS support at low altitude. While this was going on, I launched a prospective SEAD strike from Ouadi Doum to see if could take out some HQ-16B SAM sites that were guarding the Sudanian ground forces. I was pleasantly surprised to see the glide bombs take out the first SAM site and immediately launched two more flights carrying glide bombs to take out the rest of the HQ-16B SAM sites. Unfortunately, this came with the loss of two Rafale fighters that were guarding Chadian airspace which left my forces in just that more of a precarious situation. Meantime, my cruise missiles had impacted but two that were aimed at Wadi Seidna malfunctioned leaving it still operational. I re-armed two Rafales on the CdG with glide bombs to take out a YJ-12 shore battery that was making me a little nervous, left two to arm with more SCALP EG cruise missiles, and armed the rest as fighters. I soon began to see a bunch of fighters moving in to bomb Abeche at low altitude and was dismayed to realize that my fighters would not be able to get there in time. However, the attackers got annihilated by the Crotales defending Abeche so I guess that's alright then. Meantime, my General's Instinct(tm) told me that my AWACS orbit was too far back so I moved it forward and, lo and behold, Chinese fighters were moving in to bomb Ouadi Doum. I launched all of my available strikers to defend it and while the enemy fighters only took two losses out of the 8 sent to attack, their cruise missiles didn't fair so well and none made it through to hit the target. With my strikers in the air, I decided to send them to attack an SA-2 defending the Sudanian ground forces as well as blast a forward airbase that was carrying attack helicopters. While the forward airbase strike went well enough, the strike on the SA-2 caused a few brown pants moments while the designated fighters overflew a bunch of MANPADS at low altitude and toss bombed the Guideline with GPS-guided munitions without even bothering to evade the s***-load of missiles headed their way. Luckily, the two fighters didn't suffer any losses and I immediately got to work bombing the Sudanian AAA from high altitude after quickly making sure that some nearby Chinese fighters weren't airworthy enough to intervene. I then sent my helicopters in from Abeche to start chipping away at the Sudanian ground forces which they did with great success. After a while, the Chinese sent in another low altitude bombing strike on Abeche but this time I was ready. With 2 of my fighters against 10 of theirs. I got 5 of their outdated fighters before running out of missiles so I decided to go in for guns scratching an extra fighter before I had to return to base due to being completely Winchester. Crotales got 2 more fighters before running out of ammunition leaving my Mistrals to defend the airport on their own. They took out one fighter outright by hitting the cockpit (boom, headshot) while the final fighter took 3 Mistrals to the gut and broke off to try to make it to base. Unfortunately for it, the fires were too much and it blew up less than a minute into the egress. Pretty soon after that, I was able to get a fairly uneventful strike away at the YJ-12 battery that was making me so nervous and rearmed the landing Rafales as fighters. The second SCALP EG strike against Wadi Seidna went off without a hitch and when those Rafales landed, I armed them as fighters. After some laid back bombing of Sudanian positions, a final Chinese strike against Abeche came into view but this time, I had plenty of AAMs to spare and the Floggers just evaporated. After continuing to bomb the s*** out of Sudanian forces without any resistance, I took stock and decided that my services were no longer needed since the operation had become little more than a shooting gallery.
