I have some experience from WitE and encircling Leningrad usually meant you take the ports around ladoga this would then result in the isolation of the city and its surrounding divisions including leftovers in Estonia. However, in WitE 2 this is not the case, I've taken osinovets, kobona and syasstray. This should really mean that leningrad can trace any supplies.

Does anyone know how to encircle Leningrad?

If enough supply is delivered by air (500 tons, I think), units will not be isolated. Perhaps that's why.

Plus it may have a well stocked Depot that lasts some time too.
Isolated units won't immediately turn into walkovers - that allows to replicate some situations where pocketed units lasted for some time (Stalingrad pocket is probably the most famous)

There were bugs with isolation in the Leningrad in earlier versions of the game, including the current official version, IIRC. We've had several different issues there, including units that should be isolated there routing out instead. Fixes were made in 1.01.00, IIRC, but they caused other problems. More fixes were made in later versions, so it's important to know what version you are using if in fact it's not an issue of air resupply keeping the defenders from being treated as isolated (they still shouldn't rout out of the pocket in this case).

Ah, I didn't realise there were issues with the version. I was using version 01.00.07. I've now installed the 01.01.07 update, hopefully i can continue my save with the new patch and the encirclement might work.

I find the combination of bombing and encirclement enough to render a tough fortified Lenn to succumb quickly
I may missunderstand if you are trying to starve them out

Take it 42, after isolating it over the winter.

Isolating Leningrad is still an issue with 1.01.07_beta. I've isolated Leningrad (April '42) from its Lake Ladoga port (Osinovets) for 2 turns so it can only be getting air freight. Last turn the Russian AI flew in 9 transports and lost 5 of them. This doesn't sound like 500 tons of freight delivered. I'll give it another couple of turns. Annoying to the see the defenders route out of the pocket.

Do you have saves you can upload, or is this a server game?

Yes I do have saves. How do I send them again?

The next turn Leningrad showed isolated but the turn after it was back unisolated after losing all 6 TB-3's in a resupply mission, which again doesn't sound like 500 tons. Where does it tell how much freight was transported? Where does it tell me how much freight each transport plane can carry? How many flights does each transport plane make in a single resupply mission?

Ok, another turn later. I watched the Russians turn and they flew 2 air resupply missions in to NW Leningrad totalling 126 tons (91+35) and the Leningrad pocket is not isolated!

You can zip up saves and attach them to a post here. Or you can email them to 2by3@2by3games.com . As for the transports, you can look at their max load and divide by 2000 to see how much freight they can carry in tons under the best case. So a TB-3 transport can carry 5 tons of freight so you'd need around 100 sorties. if I'm doing the math right.

So I'll need to see saves, ideally a series of saves in both your turn and the enemy's turn so I can see what's going on. Leningrad is cut off from Osinovets, and it can't trace out, they should be isolated and the units shouldn't rout out of the pocket. Definitely need the saves to see what's going on with the latest version. Thanks.

I emailed you the last 3 turns.
The latest turn, the Russians flew in only 24 tons freight and still not isolated.

How much freight do they still have in the hexes inside the Leningrad pocket? If it's a lot, the siege will take longer to make the area isolated.

I don't know. It went isolated (units with red borders) for a turn then went unisolated. There was a very small amount of freight flown in. Much less than 500 tons total over the next 4 turns, maybe 200 tons altogether. They were showing diminishing strength and red corners on the units indicated low supply. Just not isolated so, in the end, I just eliminated them and had them rout out of the pocket.
