I war in the East 1 I found success as the axis by constantly attacking wherever I found the Soviets to be weakest. In War in The East 2 does it make more sense to be slow and methodical. IE wait a turn or 2 to concentrate your armor without attacking before pushing through for encirclements? Allow to soviet AI to position it's troops for a few turns so you can encircle more units? What should my pace feel like early on and when the axis are on the offensive?

Does it make sense to attack units in the early months to force them to rout or should i focus more on setting up encirclements?

If a Soviet unit routs does it make sense to move beside them to force attrition or is the attirition HQs and routing units face largely in consequential?

I have not played the AI since Beta & then only a few turns. Maybe the "majority"(the majority of players play the AI) can come out and comment on the AI capabilities for what the Germans need to do. I can only advise from a H2H standpoint which isn't always the same vs the AI. Anyone help VesaAwesaka out?

Pocketing Soviets is always the best way to produce Soviet losses but you are not always able to produce a pocket each turn that can be reduced the next turn and generate the large Soviet losses you need to keep the Soviet manpower low.

The early Soviets have low morale. When a unit with morale <= 55 (the Soviet NM in 41 is 50 and then it is reduced to 45 for early 42) retreats it has a chance to have additional retreat losses from Deliberate Attacks. In order to keep the Soviets from getting overly large very quickly it is important for the Axis to use their infantry to perform Deliberate Attacks and cause these additional retreat losses. You can easily cause over 100K Soviet losses per turn with these losses.

You can keep up the Axis CPP by rotating units on the attack. Attack and pull back a hex while another unit advances into the vacated hexes - this allows some CPP recovery right away. Don't always use all of your MPs. Since CPP is recovered in ratio to the unit's remaining SMP, it is important to have some remaining SMP!
