Ok guys I'm stumped. I want to use a cargo mission to drop off SEALs/SOF etc from an LPH (USS Guam) and then pick them and "Stranded personnel" up and return to the ship. I am STUMPED! In particular I would like like to transport the SEALs via Helio from an LPH, and then recover Stranded Civilians.

What are those "4x SEAL" etc. Magazine loads for if all you drop off is a Inf Sec/Plt/Coy and not SEALS or Marines?

Also why don't the "Cargo" choices include Marines, SEAL Teams, SOF, Rangers, etc. Just the Generic Inf Sec doesn't seem to cut it IMHO.

Hi BD

I don't think ships can pick units up yet (anybody?). Only drop them off. Aircraft do both. There is definitely requests in for that capability.

In terms of cargo. The items to add are individual mounts that make up the particular land unit you'd like to drop. So for example if you look at the seal platoon you'll need to grab 2. 7.22mm sections, 1 forward observer, 3 infantry sections and one spec ops saboteur. Unless there has been a recent change you don't get the sensors associated with the unit only the mount.

The alternative is the Lua. You can spawn a complete unit once a ship reaches a zone (area trigger)

Thanks

Mike

Yeah, I was looking for a Helio insertion from an LPH not the ship dropping off.

Sounds like it is easier just to teleport them then.

Al,

If I correctly understand what you are saying, then I have done it plenty of times. It isn't difficult.

Make sure that they are available. Make sure that the helo is setup to perform the mission. Make certain that the cargo (personnel) is loaded into the helo. Assign the helo to the target (drop) location. It should work without and issue.

After the drop, the helo will need to be unassigned, otherwise it will RTB. A new mission will need to be assigned, or the helo will need to be manually flown to the pickup site. Now, I don't know if the game has the pickup available as of yet. I suggested that that make it a legit mission so that they can program it, and do it on its own. The devs seemed interested, but I'm not sure that they ever implemented it.

In any case, everything except for the last part is doable.

So a "Proxy" SEAL unit that looks like a SEAL unit is possible. I'm trying to create a Grenada/Urgent Fury operation where the SEALs took significant losses. So I want an actual SEAL unit by ID for scoring. So yes, everything you Say is doable, but I'm going to place some SEAL Teams on Barbados and teleport them when the Helios arrive on station. So the Carego Mission will just have one Section for each helio.

Now I know why no one has done an Urgent Fury scenario!

I played around with it before. I Had someone more skilled than me help me. He set up a scenario whereby enemy units were transported to the location by both the blue and red sides. Then the cargo (ground units) began moving toward each other and attacking one another. It was pretty cool to see.

Regarding the seal team, there MAY be an actual seal team unit, but most just use the 4-man infantry. Whether than can be named something else is probably a Lua thing. I don't do Lua.

I'm pretty sure there are 'SOF/saboteur' in the selectable cargo and as BDukes says you would need to add a forward observer to get the sensors. But I also think the best way is to Lua the unit in - in this case it is more accurate than teleport.

For the pickup, there are 'personnel' in the selectable cargo and the game will do pickups with helicopters fine. For the setup there is probably a way of adding the specific cargo item to the map or you can just run the game and drop the 'personnel' where you want them. The Helos will pick up as many as they can and the remainder will be left.

Fiddly but functional.

Bart,

How do you assign a helo to a mission and have AI control the mission and pick up the cargo without handling it manually? You can give it a SUPPORT mission, but it won't automatically pick something up without using Lua, will it? If so, how? I'd love to know.

Thanks in advance.

I suggested that it should be an actual mission. Assign a helo to it, and tell it what to pick up, and then let the AI handle everything else. I thought that it was a great idea. I remember playing the North Atlantic scenario and trying to send a helo a few millimeters this way, then that way, then this way again, trying to pick up a downed pilot, when I thought of the mission. I don't have a desire to play helo pilot, so it seems like something that the game should have. Every thing else is handled by missions, so that should be as well. It would make life easier. Just create the mission, assign the unit, and click on the target, and not worry about it again. Sounds good. <lol>

Part of that problem is the scenario designer (guilty!) makes the trigger area too small. I think I saw some discussion here about a SAR mission last year - maybe it was the same thread you started. Good idea.

There was this post: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5043607 that deals with C/SAR via scripts. Mostly for picking up stranded units, maybe helpful?

Do you have an example for a land unit I can follow? In particular I'm wanting to either teleport or generate three SEAL Teams.
