Raiding takes supply. I want to preserve supply while sitting on those morale hex next to the convoy line. If I put my sub in silent mode, would that do the trick? Would a sub in silent mode still intercept enemy capital ships going adjacent to them?

After testing in hotseat I'll revise that answer completely :P :).

Surface ships can sit on NM objective hexes and trigger them even when they are not in raiding stance, in that case the ships do not lose supply.

The same goes for submarines in "hunt" mode on hexes that are not on or bordering convoy lines.

Subs in silent mode can sit on raid hexes on convoy lines, activate them, not raid the convoy, and not lose supply.

Only ships in raiding mode on or next to convoy lines, or Submarines in hunt mode on or next to convoy lines will lose supply.

I would personally call that a bit of an iffy mechanic, seeing as intense commerce raiding in the channels would necessarily require the same level of activity if not more from the raider. But it's probably something about coding the hexes that mean they cant be coded to only respond to raiding or hunting units and that they lose supply doing so. :)

Silent mode heh?

I mean if we're going for extra realism, if the Royal navy was fleeing the German's high sea fleet I'm pretty sure that would have made the gov fall and made UK morale crater. You're already getting off easy!

Pppft. The Royal Navy is making a "Tactical repositioning" thank you very much. All the papers in the UK say so! Complete with quotes from the admiralty and everything! :D
