In my most recent game against the AI the KB decided to attack Pearl Harbor for three days in a row. On the second and third day I was able to get my air force up and absolutely decimated their Kates and Vals (I got quite a few aces sitting at Pearl Harbor now). How much damage do you think this did to the KB with regards to having good pilots? It is December 26th now and I have only seen the KB attack Wake on their way back to I presume Truk so I haven't been able to gauge their strength.

The KB will be able to replace their aircraft in a few weeks but those 70-90 skilled pilots cannot be replaced in the PBEM game. The ones brought in to replace them would be skilled in the 50-70 level and more on a par with American pilots. That would mean the US carriers could challenge KB as soon as they had numerical parity in aircraft (discounting the Devastators which should be landed and replaced with fighters or dive bombers).

That said, I don't know if the AI allows the side it controls to replace with similar skilled pilots. It has other built-in workarounds to make up for lack of ability to respond to events in the game, so it could have been given control over pilot stats without going through an entire training program.

I think it would be a good exercise to continue play and see what kind of results KB gets from here on.

Decimate is Latin and it means to reduce by one tenth. Absolutely decimate means to absolutely reduce by one tenth. Repeatedly decimate would be pretty serious.

There is a head-to-head mode. You can turn it on and look for both sides. According to the results of the test, I refused to repeat attacks on Pearl Harbor. Low-maneuverable American fighters cope with the elite of Japanese aviation. This is another anti - Japanese gaming scam. Which is a lot in this game.

I will check what the combat reports told me once I get home from work. Another question, how many extra Betties do the AI get. I have shot down over a hundred of them and they still keep coming. I guess the AI has to make up for how often it sends unescorted bombers against me. The Dutch pilots love when that happens.

Right now the game says the Japanese have lost 55 Kates, 55 Zeroes, and 53 Vals. It is currently December 26th, 1941.

Did you take all available undamaged combat vessels and make Surface Combat Task Forces (SCTF or SC TF) to attack the enemy? If you do that, start with a lot of 2-4 DDs TFs with Low Aggression to go in and launch torpedoes, waste enemy torpedoes, and gun ammo then flee? Followed up by any Omaha class CLs, then the heavier Brooklyn/Helena class CLs and CAs with high aggression? Then any relatively undamaged battleships? Somebody did that in a PBEM, sank 3 Japanese CVs and the beginning of the game. The game continued to the bitter end with two changes of command on the Allied side.

No, almost every cruiser was damaged, and I didn't want to tangle with any Japanese BBs or CAs with just destroyers or light cruisers. I did send subs, but they didn't shoot. I'm playing against the AI so it is probably good that the AI still has a chance.

If you didn't sortie the PT boats you missed a choice opportunity.

No cap up on Day one or was the raid before the CAP was up? The reason I ask is I had the KB off of Midway 2 turns ago and have no eyes on now. Between Pearl and the carriers 2 hexes NE I have 210 Fighters in CAP. Wondering if it is enough deterrent. Three of the BBs are not too badly damaged, but will take some time to get them out of repair.

You missed a great opportunity for 2 to 4 DDs per TF to run and fire some guns and launch torpedoes. If you got lucky and hit with a torpedo that exploded, it is a long way to Japanese shipyards and if an aircraft carrier is on fire, for some really strange reason they just do not launch aircraft. The IJN also has a lot of difficulties putting fires out.

I have historical first turn on so I don't give any orders on the 7th. There was no CAP the first day, all fighters on cap the other days at 60% and layered altitudes.

I should probably have been more aggressive, but that isn't my play style. I will have to teach myself that.

I have found a CVL North of the Moluccas right now that I am trying to engage, time will tell whether I will be able to sink a carrier soon.

Another CVL decided to attack Midway, I tried to catch it with my carriers but it got away. The CVL did launch a strike without escorts on one of my carriers though, 8 Kates were shot down in a single battle. I like the free training.

One thing hitting the target again in the next day can be tricky, if there alot of burning, wreckages, etc. Would be hard to spot it from the air during all that AA fires and fighters trying to intercept them. First day or surprise attack should be fine, as long the weather is favorable.
