EDIT 16.02.22: Going to restart work on this. I'm going to start by revising the entries and include the units I left out becuase the game data was correct. I'm doing the latter because I see some (probably) fantasy units showing up in mod proposals and this should serve as a control.

Got the Organisational History of the German Army Artillery series so going to start posting again.

Some wild rides so going to post the TOE ideas later.

Manpower
In March 41 II/57, with 12x10cm K, reported
Stab 56 Men, 27 Veh
Nachrichten 51 Men, 15 Veh
AVT 10 Men, 15 Veh
3 Bttr 462 Men, 126 Veh
Nachschub 141, 38
Total 720 Men 221 Veh
by August 41 this seems to have been shrunk down to about 675(II/62). 01.10.1943 for 3x10cm k, 6xsFH, establishment strength was 625. 01.10.1943 Schw Art Abt 850 (mixed at the time) had and establishment of 580 men. Another unit, Schw Art Abt 848 shows an establishment strength of only 489 men for 9xsFH on 1.11.1943.
21cm unit Schw Art Abt 854 had 653 men while 859 had 629 men for 9 guns on 01.10.1943. 859 is noted as missing its munitions column.

Number of Officers/NonComs are similar, number of enlisted (inkl. Hiwi) makes the difference. The 848 and 854 strength report show very few HiWi's leading me to believe they are missing their munitions columns, also the similar number of 854 with 859. 854's is confirmed to be missing 01.12.1943.

In game these seem to run at 400-550 men, especially the 10cm K units seem very undersized at 364. Maybe add some support squads at least to the 10cm K units. Also mentioning this because some of the units disbanded in 1944 were down to 10-20% of establishment judging from the numbers transferred.

Various:
8.8.1943 order to convert 7 Heeres Art Abt to Hummel
25.03.1943 order to establish 9 leFH RSO Mot Abt to replace the loss of units at Stalingrad (447 men)
25.03.1943 order to establish 6 leFH (12.2) RSO Mot Abt with 12x12.2cm 396 r to replace the loss of units at Stalingrad. 07.04.1943 some or all of these ordered to be equipped with leFH instead, at least confirmed for 851, 855, 860 and 861.

February 1945 reformed as motorized leFH Abt

I/84th K3 Gun
Should start full strength with 6 guns.

Received 6x17cm on 24. Sep 1943 and became mixed unit from then on with 2 Bttr of 17cm and 1 Bttr of 24cm K3. Temporary Organisation entry per 29.12.1943 shows 1. and 2. Bttr intended with 4x17cm, 3. Bttr 2x24cm K3. Strength report for 16.02.1944 shows 1x 24cm K3 and 6x17cm, but official KSTN was still that of 6x24cm K3.
By 14.03.1944 organisation switches to 9x17cm guns but the official name still retains the 24cm K. designation.
27.7.1944 KSTN switches officially to a partially motorised Abt with 8x15.2 and 6x15.5(french)(3.Bttr as a double Bttr) with an additional 6 (per 20.12.1944 16) 7.5 FK 235 (Brit or Belgian) as additional weaponry.
11.03.1945 then calls for reestablishment of a 6 (later 9) gun 21cm K Abt.

II/84th How Bat
Should only have 6 guns in the TOE not 8. Wrong Gun being used, this was not the 240mm H39 L/18.

28.03.1942 6. Bttr gets reequipped with 3x17cm guns (org chart shows symbol for 15cm, apparently common mistake when 17cm were new)

12.07.1942 4. Bttr gets reequipped with 3x19.4cm (french)
17.08.1942 5. Bttr also gets 3x17cm. Abt now has 6x17cm and 3x19.4cm (f).
26.01.1943 4. Bttr has received 4x10.5 Canons (in addition to the 19.4cm) and is a double Bttr.
18.07.1943 4. Bttr gets reequipped with 2x24cm guns
01.04.1944 4. Bttr shown with 2x17cm and 1x15cm, the 15cm to be replaced with a 17cm.

per official KSTN and naming the Abt is still a 24cm K on 10.06.1944, but after the 2x24cm of the 4. Bttr went away in early 1944 it never had or received any such guns.

21.09.1944 official KSTN transition to a 9x17cm Abt
per 15.03.1945 it had 4x17cm, 4x12.2cm and 11x7.5(97/38) Pak.

Independant Bttrs

There were a lot of independant Bttrs floating around that were used as Korps Art or to reinforce Divisions for a specific time. In some cases they were consolidated into Art Abt in 43-44, but in most cases they seem to have stayed independant. How to handle these units.

IMO for the ones that were consolidated one could move the in service date of the Art Abt up to some average of the in service dates of the component Bttrs.

The others could be consolidated into Artillerie Kommandeure (ArKo), the Art Commands that controlled whatever Artillery was grouped together at Korps or Army (HArKo) level for an operation or a time period. 3-4 Bttr could be consolidated based on service dates.

Heeres Pak Abteilungen

ordered to set up 22 PAK Abt on 12.05.1944, to be ready by
4 Abt 27x8.8 PAK by 25.05.1944
5 Abt 27x8.8 PAK by 15.06.1944
4 Abt 27x7.5 PAK by 10.06.1944
9 Abt 27x7.5 PAK by 01.07.1944

the first 4 units were moving by the end of May. All units were to be initially non motorized, but from July 1944 it seems all except 1007-1010 were partially motorized, in game terms this probably means motorized since for the PAK fomations it meant all guns had towing vehicles. AIUI it seems the missing Munition transport columns prevented the units from receiving the Mot designation (also applies to partially motorized Art Abt).

The existing units were renamed Art Abt in December 1944 but still kept their PAK organisation.

16.05.1944 1007-1010 TOE 27x8.8 PAK 43, (all missing in game) were moving by early June and destroyed in August, some had rests used for other units
22.05.1944 1037-1041 TOE 27x8.8 PAK 43, most were destroyed by September, 1041 seemed to have been mostly intact when transferred to Art Brig 388
10.06.1944 1053-1056 TOE 27x7.5 PAK 1055 missing in game, mostly destroyed by September
01.07.1944 1057-1065 TOE 27x7.5 PAK,

1052 Panzerjaeger Bat
should not exist as seperate unit, this was the Stug Brig 281 converted to towed PaK (non Mot); 15.08.1944 27x8.8 PAK, at least 1 Bttr destroyed, rests form core for II./ Art Brig 403

1060 PAK Abt, 1047th/1060th Fortress leFH How Bat are the same unit. Between 18.07.1944-27.09.1944 1047th Fortress leFH Bat was in the org records for the 1060 PAK Abt (might have been a mistake?) before it was then back to 1060 Festungs Art Abt. Book has the scanned note by the Abt Commander from 06.10.1944.

1061 PAK Abt renamed Art Abt but remained a PAK unit, gets reequipped with 8.8 PAK (order 31.08.1944 but next available strength report only from December 1944).

Fortress units

The Fortress leFH 1047,1057,1061-1064, 1094, 1095, 1100 Bats should not exist.

I see the below are inaktive in the scen data, I'll just list the date they were ordered to form and the TOE. The order dates because ready dates are not useful. Some units went into action within two weeks with predictable results. Most were around until the end. I suggest bringing them in with their guns (all were captures) but no experience and no support.

Art Brigades/Korps

This kicked off 02.06.1944 with the Organisation Section of the General Staff calling for creating permanent (instead of the the hidherto ad hoc) attachment of independant Army Artillery Abt/Bttr to the Art Regimental Staffs zBV which provided the C&C to Army and Korps level Artillery, and renaming such formations Art Brigades. What is important to note is that with the Artillery Brigade the C&C structure would be delivered together with the firing units for the first time, instead of firing units docking onto whatever Art C&C structure they were assigned to.

Suggested TOE was 2xsFH Abt, 1x21cm Abt, 1x17cm Bttr, or the 21cm Abt substituted by sFH.

The first such units are created with Art Reg Stab zbV 70, 704 and 140 being renamed Art Brigades to be ready 30.06.1944 (140 by 10.08.1944).

In short succession Art Brig Lehr, Art Brig 959, and after Art Div 18 is dissolved 12.07.1944, Art Brig 88 and 288 are formed/renamed.

Thereafter there's a ping pong of requests and counter proposals for the forming of a dozen new Art Brigades and several Art Abt, what they should look like, and what can actually be provided.

Per the General of Artillery proposal of 21.08.1944 12 new Art Brig would need 717 Of, 111 Civ Officials, 4053 Uof, 13'851 Men, 504 guns, 552 tow vehicles, 2442 Trucks, 1479 cars and 387 Motorcycles. To be noted some of these 12 Brigades would have been cut down "light" Brigades with only 3 Abt.

However the Org Section wanted mixed Brigades of 6 Abt, with as many 21cm and 17cm as possible, to be ready by 10.11.1944. On a meeting 24.08.1944 it was discussed that since 25 Volks Gren Divs were also planned, only 6 Art Brigades could be raised by the end of October, and only if all existing rebuild/reinforcement plans were shelved. At the same time Hitler wants 14 Art Brigades for a concentration of a 1000 guns for a decisive action in the West.

Proposed TOE at this stage was 6 Abt, with

1 Abt 7.5 PAK (at least 18 guns)
1 Abt leFH (preffered 18 guns)
1 Abt 12.2 396 r 12 guns
further preferably
1 Abt 8.8 PAK Sfl 18 guns
1 Abt sFH 18 guns
1 Abt preferably 21cm and 17cm ,or 10cm K or 15cm K

28.08.1944 proposed TOE variant in the draft implementation order for 6 Brigades but then 30.08.1944 10 requested (2 each I&II by 30.09, 2xI&4xII by 31.10, 2xII by 20.11.), however during September time plan was changed as it couldn't be kept.

TOE variants of the 6 Abt Brigades later renamed Korps
I
7.5 PAK 18
8.8 PAK 18(sfl)
leFH 18
sFH 12
12.2 12
21cm/17cm 6/3

II
7.5 PAK 18
8.8 PAK 18
leFH 18
sFH 12
12.2 12
10cm K 12

the "light" 3 Abt Art Brigades
all motorized (45 towing vehicles, 207 trucks)
24xsFH, 6x21cm, 3x17cm

25.09.1944 proposal to rename Brigades with 6 Abt into Art Korps, while the name Brig would be kept for the formations with 3 Abt. 14.10.1944 signed order that 5+ Abt units would be called Art Korps

20.10.1944 rename of 401,402,409,410,766 to motorized Art Korps, 403-408 become partially motorized Art Korps. The motorized Brigades 70,88,140,288,704,959 and Art Leht Brig are not renamed.

22.10.1944 The SS get jurisdiction over several discilplinary/judiciary matters of the 12 forming Art Korps which is why they are redesignated "Volks-" (388, 401-410, 766).

20.01.1945 The Art Korps (not "Volks-") 411,412 (partial mot) are created and the 888 Art Brig renamed to Korps (Mot), all to initially have 4 Abt; 36x75 PAK, 36xleFH, 12xsFH; with another 2 Abt to be stood up later. One of the Abt which was to have 18xleFH ordered added 18.02.1945, and the stated intent for the 6th Abt was to have 6x21cm/3x17cm. However due to the situation in 45, this ended up not happening. The order to convert the 888 Art Brig into an Art Korps was later cancelled due to the lack of guns and instead it was used to form 412. (I would consider not disbanding 888 and instead allowing it and 411,412 to become Korps with the intended TOE. Not unreasonable depending on the player situation in 45.)

Notes on Motorization. A motorized Volks Korps (II) had 289 trucks and 84 towing vehicles, and partially motorized Volks Korps (II) had 119 trucks and 72 towing vehicles. In both cases all guns were towed, but in the latter the maneuver ability aside from the guns was considered only 33%, this due to the basic ammunition load and other items not being able to be lifted in one load. Not sure if in game terms not both would be considered motorized.

Since it takes time to fill out, train up and ship out empty shells, consider bringing in the empty shells fairly early.
