why are the German 12. ID and 32.ID not on the frontline but there is an empty hex between them and the 188th Rifle Division? Is this historically accurate? It does not make too much sense to me, as all the other German divisions are massed on the frontline.
How do you change a soviet air command to a different front? Not using AI assist. Only option seems to be send to theater box. If I do send to a theater box can I then move it to a different front? Will it be different with Air Armies?
If not using any assists Air Commands are assigned to Ground Fronts with the Ground Support air directive. Just make a new air directive and select the front you want them to support from the list that appears.

to make a command attribution, right click on the unit tab and then change the linked Soviet front. if its simply a case of GS attribtution then use the approach from Darojax
there are some Soviet air commands that should be in the Theatres, if you've moved one of these to the map then not all the functions are available
Thanks...already knew you can assign air commands to support different fronts/armies for ground support. I cannot assign an existing on map air command (have not brought any onto map) to another front (did right click and tried to assign to another HHQ) (e.g., central or caucasus which don't have their own air command).
Tried assigning during both air and ground phases any front air command with or without planes.
Only option is the 4 theater boxes. 41 campaign, 4 Jan 42 turn, version 01.00.07. I will assume that it is WAD.

you re-assign exactly as any other HQ
so, open the unit tab:
click on the current commanding HQ and make your selection
Thanks, that shows it will work with air armies. Haven't got there yet
apologies but I'm utterly confused as to what you are asking about. The process for re-assigning air groups to AOG and then AOG to different commands is in the manual if that is what you are trying to do?
I was trying to assign a front air command (before they change to air armies) from one front to another. Like moving the Black Sea Fleet Air Command or Volkov Air Command to a different front like the Caucasus Front which doesn't have its own Front Air Command.
I was also wondering if it works different once Air Armies replace Front Air Commands. I appreciate the answers and I think the game doesn't allow front commands to be changed. However, once Air Armies replace them, then you are able to move the Air Armies around between ground fronts (as your example showed). That makes sense to me historically. Sorry for the confusing question.
Until then will use the ground support option and have the Black Sea Air Command support the Caucasus Front ground troops.
You can change the HHQ of an Air Command exactly the same way as an air army. In fact the only thing that chances is the name, but function wise a Front Air Command and an Air Army are identical.
If you're on Windows 10, press Shift+Win+S keys, then you can select drag the area you want to screenshot. Once done that, open PAINT, press Ctrl+V to paste the picture, then save that, and attach to a post here on the forums. : )

Hmmm....what turn is that? Also, can you show the screen before that one and what button you pushed? I'm obviously missing something as I don't see that when I try it.
t17, I pulled an old save at random. Clicked on Moscow Air Command as that was the first I found, clicked on its current linked HQ (exactly as shown in the manual and above), that is the list of possible changes.
if you really want to use a Baltic air command in the Caucasus, watch out for the 90 hex rule re support element allocations. its the only place where the locations of the air command counter and the actual airbases is important
When I click on the Moscow Defense Zone link to the right of the HHQ button I still get the same thing as before. I don't know why, maybe version? Anyway, I will post the next picture that comes up and then I give up.
the images I used were from opening a game I played in the late alpha/beta stages of testing. So saved under a long gone exe and opened with a current beta exe.
I've just tried it with a clean load of the 1941 scenario and it works exactly as I've shown, so I don't believe its patch related.
There maybe a very specific bug with the MDZ as a holding location, so best posted in the tech support section. Some of the off map MDs trigger issues (some players were putting them on map), but I think they all got resolved.
But if you get that for all your air commands then I think you maybe better to do a reinstall. Clearly something is wrong, no-one else is seeing (& as ever with these things its frustrating for you).
Hi All, Loving the game. Just about to hit my first winter playing the Germans vs the AI. (Nov 9th presently) Trying to prepare for the winter. I did some reading on the forums and understand the importance of supply and having depots nearby the front lines, and understand the 1st winter rules based on the manual.
My question is this. What do folks do with their airforce during the winter? Do you leave it in place? I know it won't fly on blizzard turns. Put it on rest? Shift it to farther back airfields out of range of soviet bombing? Or do folks put it in the Axis reserves entirely?
I often find I forget to change units status from "refit" to "ready" when attacking. Is there any disadvantage to have units set as "refit" in combat?
Refit status determines the priority receipt of refills. But it doesn't work if the unit is in contact with the enemy. Therefore, there is no problem with that.

I don't know if it changed in later patches, but in 1.00.11, REFIT works even if in direct contact with an enemy unit. (Yes I know it says in the manual that it doesn't.)
In any case, REFIT status has no effect on combat ability or anything else other than prioritizing it for replacements and supply during the logistics phase.
