I'm playing a couple of PBEMs. In one, Scen 26 Da Babes Lite I think, I've got several factories are producing the P-38Ls (Dec 44). I never did anything to the factory chart (no upgrades to factories).

In the other (a Big B), (in Feb 44) I clicked on the factories in LA and set the P-38Es, fs, Gs and Hs to upgrade to P-38Js. So far none have changed production. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Why do you want to upgrade IED factories?

When does the P-38J come in? Do the other P-38 versions upgrade to another version?

In reply to both persons:

1) The P-38J became available several months ago (don't exactly remember but I've got several squadrons so equipped already including one in Burma that seems to get replacements at a much reduced pace).

2) Apparently there is only one factory that produces the P-38L at a rate of 20/month originally. Now in the Scen 26 game I've got 3 factories making the P-38L (60/month). The assembly factories have buttons which can apparently be toggled between "KEEP" amd "UPGRADE" and another between Repair "ON" and "Off". Do these buttons really do anything or as BTD says "Allied production is automated. It's not like Japan". (at all).

Yes, those selections do something.

The last one first. If the factory is damaged, you can either repair it or not repair it. You are not allowed to expand it but also, if it were a mod, then they might start at a lower number for the initial amount then increase the production.

For the "Keep" and "Upgrade" that only comes into play if one model upgrades to the next model which it may not always do. So check to see if those models upgrade to another model as I had already asked you.

Allied factories (Los Angeles is the best example) can be Upgraded or Kept (as is), In Production or Halted, Repaired or not). Presently in a PBEM I'm theoretically producing 40 x P38Gs each month while that aircraft has been upgraded twice to P38H and P38J (of which the production is currently 20 x P38J). So my question is: Why are my factories still producing the obsolete P38G (at a higher rate no less) than the P38J. I've had the P38G factory set on UPGRADE for months yet it hasn't upgraded even to P38H so what gives?

Allied factories don't work the same as Japanese factories. Allied aircraft become available when the editor says so....GP

Pretty sure you're wrong on this. If what you say is true then there is no point whatsoever in allowing the Allied Player to choose Upgrade or Keep/Production ON or OFF/Repair on Don't Repair unless the Devs incorporated these options into the game originally but then just decided to not implement them. It also makes no sense that the Allies keep building an obsolete version of a fighter when two subsequent versions of the same basic fighter are already in production.

In PDU off it makes perfect sense.

Not all fighter squadrons will upgrade to the shiny new models, and then there's the consideration of squadrons belonging to other nationalities that may share aircraft pools with other nations.

They are probably setup that way just in case the Japanese invade the west coast. They can then be repaired and used by the Japanese player....GP

Absolutely not. Suggest you revisit the manual - s13.6

Screenshots please. I don't have the BigB mod installed so I need to see the screenshots to see how he has set up the production facilities. Hence screenshots of:

1. Los Angles aircraft factories - accessed from the LA base screen, bottom row

2. Aircraft pool - just the USA fighter filter should suffice

3. Upgrade screen of one of the squadrons still flying the P-38G

SO they convert to Vehicles. Not aircraft. Makes sense....GP

In bigbs mods the P-38G does not upgrade to anything, only itself.

The P-38H should upgrade to the P39J in December 1943.

So if a P38G squadron never upgrades to anything it continues to produce obsolete aircraft with less range than the P38J? Even though the supply of engines for the P38G has long since dried up. Geez - imagine that - no advances in engine production? For a time I figured that the Allies needed to produce various engines like the Japanese do but that doesn't seem so but there are no engine factories like the Japanese have,

OOPS I've forgotten how to add screenshots to these pages,
