Greetings!

As some of you have known, there was a survey asking about several unit types current balance so we could find some way to give better value to some units as they currently under perform or doesn't offer any gains over other unit types.

Today we will start discussing about the status of mechanized artillery.

First of all, I would like to highlight some aspects about mechanized artillery:

Pros:

* Has higher HP than artillery (until it wears Heavy Combat Armor) and its classified as a hard target


Cons:

* Its slow, its base weight its too high and you require to at least use double diesel engines, even if using 25mm steel armor

* Doesn't offer any firepower advantages to artillery (same attack cap, half defense cap)

* The biggest gun it can use its 180mm howitzer

* Very vulnerable to infantry attacks due lack of side skirts

* Higher IP and metal cost

Considering than Mech artillery its using 180mm howitzer cannon, has 25mm steel armor and double diesel engine

* Metal Cost: 81 Metal
* IP Cost: 75 IP

vs

Artillery with 180mm gun and Combat armor along an APC with HVMG, 25mm steel armor and light diesel engine:

* Metal Cost: 57 + 16 = 73 metal
* IP Cost: 40 + 24 = 64 IP


Now, some proposals to make it more useful are: (Inside brackets are the popularity of that answer in the survey)

* Double its attack score cap, making it an "offensive" version of artillery (up to 200 soft attack cap)(60%)

* Reducing its base weight so you can use up to 88mm with a single medium diesel engine (84%)

* Changing regular artillery from all mechanized formations to mech artillery (84%)

* Reducing its metal and IP cost so its around 25% cheaper (Metal and IP wise) than making a single artillery and APC unit (60%)

* Increasing its soft HP from 40% to 60%, but lowering its hard HP 25% (wasn't in the survey)


Other proposals were:

* Making it an "counter battery" specialist, having an attack bonus against artillery

* Having a lower (kinda like tanks) initial attack penalty

* Let it use bigger guns

* Both Mech and regular artillery needs to be redesigned from the ground up
