ok, just messing around, in part following Murat's old tutorial, in part just fussing.

So how do I actually move a unit? He says, click on unit/click on target region, the manual merely says units move.

Now every now and then, by accident a unit moves but I can't work out the sequence.

so click on unit (presume the clue is it is circled in red?), then what? right click doesn't do anything, left click on the next province just selects that, click and drop seems not to work.

I assume this utterly simple and its frustrating the hell out of me (am in a France-land phase)

When you click on a unit in the move phase, you will get areas highlighted in white where the unit can move to. Click on one of those areas and the unit moves there.

then that is not happening? The unit above is selected and the map doesn't change colour

You must be in your naval move phase to move naval units and in your land move phase to move land units. What phase are you in?

Empires in Arms has a lot of different game functions for each of the different turn phases, and most of them can only be performed in a certain phase. The phase buttons at the bottom left, for example, change for each phase and are explained in more detail in the manual. This takes getting used to.

as stated in the first post this is the land phase.

Ok lets take a step even closer to basic - how do I 'select' a unit?

by random clicking every now and then a unit does move, just not the one I want or to where I want

I'm quite used to phased games, so get the basic concept. Just utterly baffled by the UI for such a simple but core aspect of game management?

I am also baffled by what you're seeing. Maybe try starting a new game. Maybe try reinstalling if necessary. I assume you are running in admin mode and have compatibility setting to WinXP SP2.

To select a unit, just click on it. Or click on the area with a stack and then click on the unit from the display at the bottom of the screen. Were you able to get highlighted move areas for naval units in the naval phase? Are you able to get any highlighted move areas for any other land unit in the land phase? If there is anything special about your O/S (other than Win10?), maybe that is a cause. I don't know. Odd.

Another thought. Do you have Always Show Ranges enabled in your options? If not, that's probably why you're not seeing move areas highlighted. See if that's the issue here.

As I think about this, not sure why this is even an option. Unless some players enjoy an extra challenge with the UI.

EDIT. Also be sure to have Show Possible Moves enabled. Another thought is that if you foraged or auto-foraged the units, then they won't move.

sorry to raise this again - done all the above.

so in this image we agree that Ney's corps is selected?

So how do I see where it can move, for some reason I can move it to the Palatinate but nowhere else. I don't want it to go there but into Berg that I DOWed.

From what I can see, you may have the leader selected and not the unit. The selected unit should be highlighted in red. But you're probably trying this. I don't know, it's odd. Maybe uninstall and then re-install.
