I was just began my work on modding. However I kept losing my working progress.
Here is my steps:
1, Did some modding.
2, Export .atzip file.
3, Unzip .atzip file.
Then I want to continue my work. However, all modding are lost. And masterfile game was using is the original one.

Honestly speaking, this game's GUI is really puzzling and I dont know what to do even after I read the document and tutorial because I dont know where are those buttons!

I hate to ask this question, but did you save your modding to an .at2 file before doing the export to the .atzip? It isn't necessary to atzip the file to have a scenario. That is actually the last step in order to put it on the web site. The best thing to do is to create a directory for you mod in /atgoldscenarios, and save your work incrementally in that directory (you don't have to use a separate directory, but will help keep things organized especially if you have many versions and other files). Obviously, adding a version number, or something, to indicate where you are in the project would help. The save button is entered by clicking on the "computer" icon in the lower left corner, which opens the systems options panel and the save button is down to the right.

I am not sure if this is your problem or not, it is just that the save step has to be before the atzip. I suspect that if you just atzip, the zip file will have the unsaved file with no changes. Like I said, don't bother with the atzip until you are done, and ready to share on the web site. Hopefully, this is just the missing step.

Are you saying that I just need to save the .at2 file in the computer icon?  When I save and then open the .at2 file, the changes I made are still not saved

Yes, generally that is what is needed, so I am a bit perplexed that it isn't saving the changes. Perhaps it has a masterfile attached? Although, I think you wouldn't be able to edit it. But, check that there is no masterfile attached to it. Click the "Setng" button and see if there is a Masterfile attached. It should say "No Masterfile". If it doesn't, clik the blue arrow icon, and don't enter a name. If you want the core from another masterfile, enter that name, but answer the question not to attach it.

Otherwise, you do have permission to write to those directories?

Looks that I successfully saved the changes I made.Thank you a lot.
By the way, can you explain the relationship between the mainfile and the.at2 file? I was wondering how masterfiles worked.

Glad to hear that you were able to save your work.
Basically, all files that you save in ATG are .at2 files. They all act like a game or a scenario, but some are intended to be a template for games. For example, the random game generator. So, the file "anewdawn-3.at2" acts more as a template to generate games, or, as an alternative, the core for game or scenario. All of them can be stand alone, but some, like the aforementioned "anewdawn-3.at2", aren't meant to be played. They are meant to be the core to a game. For that, the masterfile is loaded and is attached to the file. When a masterfile is attached, you can only edit things on the map, units, and place them on the map. Most of data for SFTypes, terrain, LOCTypes, etc., can't be edited unless you remove the masterfile. But, if you edit the masterfile, say change the combat strength of Medium Tank II, it will automatically be carried into all scenarios that have that masterfile. That way, you don't have to edit every game, just the core. You can also load a masterfile at anytime, but beware that it will overwrite all the data that are in the slots that are in the masterfile. So, if your file has more terrains than the masterfile you load, you will keep all the terrains that are above the ones in the masterfile, but all the rest will be overwritten. The same is true for events.

Curious. How is your work progressing Comcikda? And what is it you are making?

I was on a hiatus for quite a while until I came back today. What I envisioned was making a sci-fi themed camapign. Now I have successfully made two factions and made some units.
By the way,I think its much more difficult than making a TOAW4 scenery because its research tree is also confusing me

Well first of all, welcome back. :)

I am not familiar with TOAWs editor entirely, so I can't speak for it. However I am very experienced with the ATG one, and it is very powerful.

What is causing the confusion? Can you pinpoint it?

Take the development process of M60 series tanks to M1 series tanks as an example. At the beginning, I wanted to use the technology tree like this: upgrade from M60A3 to M1A1 and then to M1A2, and so on.

However, considering that I want to create other countries, and other countries do not necessarily use the same technology, I am considering whether to divide the technology level of weapons and replace the equipment pictures to show the equipment differences of different countries. But if the difference is reflected by dividing the technical level, I don't know whether the equipment name used can be determined according to the country.

Btw,can I ask other questions, please? To be honest I'm not even very familiar with ATG and I've never used naval units in ATG.XD

Sorry for not replying to the troubles you are having, I have been busy today.

But sure, ask away. Worst thing that can happen is that no-one will answer :)

First of all thank you for creating the great scenarios GD1938, I am very interested in this world map. I would appreciate it if you would allow me to use your map.
I hope to easily port my work to your map after testing the basic functionality on a small test ground, which will help me a lot. XD
And as I mentioned before, how can I show different pictures for different countries' equipments? What if I use an extra graph?
Also, what is the role of people's setting? What if I want aliens to clear the population of a city after it has been captured?
Thank you for your patience.

Sure, use to your hearts desire. I would have put an editor lock on it, if people didn't have permission to modify, or see how I did something.

You could use an extra graphic. Those are set in the SFTs, but, that would mean that while you could change the name and picture of equipment, you wouldn't be able to give them different stats. I haven't used it much to be honest. Mostly on things like Engineers or Trucks, things that would have the same stats anyway.

Where exactly? In the ppl part of the editor menu you can adjust things like what extra graphic they use (handy when you are making SFTs that have different names, like in the above). You can also change the peoples color so that they always show as a different color than their regime one, for instance. Then there are the settings for how they "react" when controlled by each people type.

Well, depends on what you mean by clearing. For instance you could do it by replacing the city by a different loctype, and that would be a ruin, with no production. Pretty simple event code. I might set the city to have 0 prod points once taken, in the setng/rulevars part of the editor. Those two in combination would make the city, have 0 production points, and be replaced by a new one, with the new abilities of that location. Of course there are many other ways to do this. ATG is very flexible. You can usually do the same thing in many different ways.

Thank you for your patience.

No problem :)
