If you customize Independent Infantry Battalion (1000 Infantry), you can add up to 500 troops worth of reinforcement (e.g. 500 MG Infantry). If you further customized the resulting unit, you could add up to 700 troops worth of reinforcements. Each customization allows you to increase the upgraded unit's size by 50%. However, if you customize Independent Motorized IN BN (1000 IN, 100 trucks) you can add up to 1000 troops worth of reinforcement (e.g., 1000 MG) and then if it's infantry an appropriate amount of transport will be added (so e.g. you'd have 1000 IN, 1000 MG, 200 trucks). If you further customized that unit, you could add up to 2000 units of reinforcement (and would correspondingly get up to a further 200 trucks if the reinforcements were infantry). Thus, because the transports are being counted as part of the original unit size, you can increase unit size by 100% with each customization - which isn't terribly dramatic with non-combatant trucks, but gets ugly quickly with APCs. This does not feel like it was intended even if it can make very strong units (I've had very good results with Ind Mech AT BNs + 800 RPG (and their 80 APCs...) This same dynamic applies to OHQ mechanized IN units as well - IN BDE can add 500 MG (or 50 tanks), but Mech IN BDE can add 1000 MG (plus their 100 APCs). With mixed infantry/armor formations like Assault IN BDE, the mechanized version can still ofc fully double their size via customization b/c the tanks are getting trucks or APCs assigned for them, but that's a different (previously-reported) bug. It also applies to OHQ armor units with infantry - Armored Assault BDE (50 tanks, 20 trucks, 100 IN, 10 arty) can add 500 reinforcements (and will get 50 more trucks if that's infantry).
