Have played SCE and SCP. Considering War Plan. A couple of questions to help my decision:

1. The above two titles offer just the right amount of "micro-management I desire...is War Plan a more intense micro experience?

2. Current state of the game... 95%+ bug free?

3. For those who have played both offerings...which one do prefer and why?

4. From reading recent reviews...War Plan seems to be more "complex" from a strategic perspective...ie broader scope with more variables to consider.

5. If playing the Axis...typically how long does a turn take, considering all the options to consider?

Long time wargamer...cut my teeth on AH's Tactics 2 vs. my dad.

Not interested GG's WIE and WIW offerings...to much detail/micro-management for my taste.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Sorry you're asking for a full review and all I can tell you is that WarPlan is the best WW2 game I've ever played, and I'm probably around the same age as you(?).

1. Both slightly more micro and slightly less, in different areas.

2. Yes, discussion right now are mostly about balance.

4. Slightly more complex, much more "realistic". You won't be invading the US as Germany.

5. Depends on the turn. From 5 to 20+ minutes for the first turn of Barbarossa.

Agree with Sveint, Join us!

The game is not perfect but what game is and it is the game I have had most fun with of all the computer wargames I have bought over the years.

1. Have not played the others.
2: Yes some bugs show up sometimes but rarely anything major 95% for sure. And support and bugfixing pretty fast. Alvaro the programmer fix things fast but Matrix can be a bit slow with the patches.
3and 4 sorry I dont know.
5. First couple of turns of Barbarossa and the later stages of the war some turns depending on how much you like to look at the map and think might run into 20+ minutes. But the weather is bad during a large part of the year and then turns can be done in 5 minutes.

Hope it helps a bit,

Edit I am always doing PBEM I do not play vs the AI.

/MM

I cut my teeth on Panzer Blitz...and went from there to countless different games.

IF you plan to play just the computer you will have fun for a while but for me it got old very quickly.
IF you plan to play PBEM I think you will really enjoy it.

Alvaro, the developer, is here day in and day out answering questions. You may not get the answer you want but almost always you will get one.

Community is what makes the game in my eyes. Though this is my first computer game I have played in nearly 10 years, if it here that makes the game in my eyes.
Maybe others have the same but I rarely sought that as I almost always played solo.
BUT PBEM is where the game will shine and you will have fun.

Good luck in your decision either way.

Yes, buy the game. I second Sveint, Stjeand and MagicMissile answers! And you will have a lot of fun! Best ETO computer wargame I played, and the closest one to bring me the same feeling I had with board wargames.

PS : Make sure to stare correctly at the frog in the above message!

1 I would say right amount of micro management
2 yes and any issues are addressed quickly
3 I have only played the global version of SC but I like WP WAY better, it is more realistic has a way better naval and air system, not being able to stack air and naval units in SC seemed cumbersome and silly to my, air force works way better in WP and you can manually strike or set them to auto fly support missions which saves time and tac can strategic bomb.
5 can take not much time to alot just depends on what is going on mine usualy take 15 minutes or less
good luck with your decision join us, if you like pbem it has a good size and fun community as well, also nothing wrong with AI especially for learning. wpe I could eventually beat on most levels, I don't play AI much anymore but I think they have been improved because last time I tried they were harder, AI in wpp seems better and poses more of a challenge
