Team, can we get an updated status on the release of the editor/"editor how to use it" documentation?

Unfortunately there is no update to the documentation as there is no one working on editor documentation that I know of. As for the work on the editor itself, it was delayed by the need to make the game steam compatible and some work on various bugs and issues that have come up over the past month. That work is done now so Pavel is back to the editor. He was in the middle of a major face-lift as well as adding functionality when this other work put the editor work on hold. Once we get the editor work done, we'll look around and see if there is someone willing to work on some documentation, but I can't promise that more will be written.

Even a very simple outline or guide. That would at least get some of us into it to get some OJT. I ask this, as this is an update to the editor, and when only a handful of people seem to know how to use it effectively now, won't they have to learn the new aspects of the editor?

Zemke makes a good point. His suggestion gets my vote.

Thanks, GibsonPete

I need to clarify my previous statement.

In other words, can Pavel write a brief outline on how to use essential parts of the editor or at least some of the critical features or perhaps dos and don'ts? My point is that very few know how to use the editor now, and after he changes it, only he will know how to use it, other than maybe Trey.

I nominate more work for Trey!

Heh. I bet. I’ve had my hands full for months working on expansion scenarios. Writing on an editor manual would be some hard work.

I think stabilizing the game (bugs and balance) should take precedence over editor work. Not every customer is a scenario designer, but every customer is a scenario player.

Have you got WitW? If so, this will help you. Also perhaps have a look back through the forums for that game for tips and tricks.

The editor is largely the same as WiTW.
I have quite a bit of experience with it. Are there any specific questions that I could help to answer?

Maybe we could all corroborate on editor documentation, or at least start something that the game designers could "tweak". I have already successfully changed production, added manpower, supply points, created new units, created new TOEs/OBs, created new planes, replaced these new ones (planes and ground units) into the Barbarossa scenario, got them produced throughout the scenario, etc. Most of my joy comes from tweaking the game mechanics :-)

Maybe Joel could add the WitW Editor manual as a stopgap solution to the next patch

That's a great idea. Perhaps with the developer's permission we could start with the WiTW editor manual and post the text on Google docs?

Kahta sounds like a winner. I have found the WITW editor and my past experience with WITE useful in dealing with modifying scenarios for testing. You still have to be very careful. Editing the game can be unforgiving. The butterfly effect is real in this game. Increasing production of one thing may impact on production of another. Changing a TO&E may create manpower or equipment shortfalls. But its like they say in Vegas, "If you don't play you can't win."

I will discuss with Erik putting the WitW editor manual out to the public. It sounds like a good idea to me until the day we get a WitE2 editor manual. If we put up a pdf, does someone have the ability to convert the pdf to googledocs?

I've uploaded the WitW editor manual in a thread that's been pinned to the top. I'll include this in future updates of the game.
