enemy has carriers near Singapore now... and there seems to be more coming to Mersing under the cover of at least three enemy carriers... don't understand the move though as Singapore is just about to fall so unloading at Mersing and marching out of the hex just wastes precious time when the enemy could unload at Singapore after having cleared the mines there as I don't expect to see the defenders survive another IJA attack...

WEIRD! Was asking about this suizide attack and was told the enemy didn't expect a shock attack across the river here... for a disabled engineer squad we completely trash an enemy brigade... was already looking forward to kick the unit out of the hex when I had to realize it retreated right out of the hex again...

was expecting the final assault at Singapore today which didn't happen so a totally unspectacular turn... SIGINT provided us with info about 53rd IJ div going to Rabaul which surprises me as the enemy isn't moving onto Burma yet and we still hold Singapore (barely) and Luzon so what is an enemy div doing at Rabaul? With an intact KB I'd say going for Port Moresby but after our B-17 visit the KB is nowhere strong enough to support an invasion of Port Moresby at this date...

looks like Mundy wants to clear Luzon and not starve my troops to death but that is coming at a cost... while we suffer lots of disablements and a destroyed btn the enemy also suffers over 200 destroyed squads... that's why I wonder about an enemy div being shipped to Rabaul, if I wanted to clear Luzon early, which I hardly ever do, then I'd use every available div here...

Your ships do not have to emerge from the off map movement at the point the AI calculates for them to go to destination port. You can set a waypoint so you emerge somewhere not in line with a common destination.

That division sent to Rabaul may signal the Japanese are halting their expansion and starting to fortify the minimal perimeter they can support. Loss of KB in early 1942 is reason enough to stop their expansion. The division was probably intended for PM but since it is no longer feasible to press that offensive, he could have just decided to have it dig in at Rabaul.

Yeah I know about the waypoint but if I send them from Balboa to the West Coast they enter the same spot all the time and I'm too lazy to set two waypoints usually.

Rabaul already shows 61 units! That feels more like a staging point for a further offensive into the South Pacific than defending the base. I guess I didn't even have that many units there in early 45 last game.

Without KB cover, all those little units that would have seized islands from the Marshalls and Gilberts and Solomons are stuck waiting for some kind of new cover to be arranged before they can move out. A great POW camp if you can cut off their movement from there!

Will be a hard task, my carriers can't stand up against massed Betty strikes with Zero escorts. Despite the loss of Kaga and most likely two other smaller carriers KB is still a threat and LBA anyways. And the enemy is still on the offensive, doubt he will settle down until he has at least the historic perimeters.

Whoever you put in charge of Singapore was worth the pps. Are you going to save him and put Percival back in charge?

I have replaced the commanders of the combined Indian Divisions but not the HQs. IIRC the Div commanders cost 50 pps each so that wasn't cheap and the HQs would have been way more expensive and I wasn't willing to spend that many points. Forgot to replace the commanders again though when the base was going to be lost.

amazing... Singapore still holds as we were able to build another fort level... but we can't hurt the enemy anymore and I would be surprised (again) if the base would be able to fend off another attack...

we have confirmation that Kaga is sunk... she's listed as sunk by MK-10 mines but the mine hit was only the reason Mundy disbanded KB at Balikpapan, the B-17s and their 500lb bombs did the job...

Your investment in better leaders for the troops in Singapore seems to have paid off! Not just delay of the Japanese advance, but significant pain for their troops as well.

Those S-boats with the Mark 10 torpedoes do not have the problems that the Mark 14s have. They just have the normal dud rate.

Yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that 60%+ are misses.

Yeah it really seems so. In over a decade of playing this game it was actually the first time I've changed leaders at Singapore because the pp cost always kept me from doing so in the past.

so much about the good, here's the bad...

Ground combat at Singapore (50,84)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 89402 troops, 1011 guns, 533 vehicles, Assault Value = 2284

Defending force 35170 troops, 335 guns, 234 vehicles, Assault Value = 62

Japanese adjusted assault: 1380

Allied adjusted defense: 265

Japanese assault odds: 5 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Singapore !!!

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+)
Attacker: shock(+)

Japanese ground losses:
1979 casualties reported
Squads: 24 destroyed, 192 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 25 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 15 disabled
Guns lost 10 (2 destroyed, 8 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
40827 casualties reported
Squads: 289 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 3683 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 60 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 418 (418 destroyed, 0 disabled)
Vehicles lost 190 (190 destroyed, 0 disabled)
Units destroyed 24

the enemy shock attacks at Singapore and takes the base... in the last two days to my surprise we were able to evacuate two of the heavy AA rgts there which will bolster our AA defenses in the SRA, one will even try to reach Luzon even though I see the chances as minimal... it took the enemy two weeks longer than real life to conquer Singapore but our main achievement were the losses inflicted within the enemy units and I'm not speaking about disabled but destroyed combat squads... in the end we lose everything though and the enemy won't have much of a problem to replace the destroyed squads but it will take time and it won't create the uber experienced Japanese combat troops one is used too when replacements go into the units...

today's air losses, not good for KB's fighting power... we only lose one AVG fighter but the pilot survived...

usually we employ hit and run tactics but this time I decided to stay a day longer and KB promptly launches another strike against two blockade runners (the last ones in the area) at Bataan... only a small number of bombers (all coming from Shokaku) and all are downed together with 6 Zeroes while the AVG lost no aircraft... brings the tally of the last two days to something like 60:1 for the AVG vs KB...

our ASW forces are pretty much useless at this stage and there are so few escorts around I rather use them for convoy escort than hunting subs...
