Taiwan Straits, 2022
Al "Beirutdude" Sandrik
The Time Is: Sunday, 27 February, 2022, 21:00 UTC
Monday, 28 February, 05:00 Taipei Time
Playable as the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) Only
13 Hours Duration

This scenario could, repeat could, gradually escalate, or it might not at all, or if could totally blow up in your face all at once. I don’t know, you see there are a series of conditions that dictate how it will go. Someone getting jumpy might just trigger an engagement, but just because you had one or two engagements doesn’t mean all out conflict will ensue because Collective Responsibility has been turned off. Your fate rest with the God’s of Probability and Lua Scripts…

Background: By New Year’s Day, 2022 PRC Party General Secretary Xi Jinping was growing increasingly frustrated with the "Leader of the Taiwan Area," Tsai Ing-wen and with what he saw as her increasingly separatist policies for the Taiwan Providence. With increasing frequency PLAAF and PLA(N)AF aircraft have been testing the southwestern corner of the "Taiwan Area" Air Defense Intercept Zone (ADIZ) but she still remained defiant and almost confrontational.

In mid-February, it was announced the American Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken, and the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yoshimasa Hayashi, would be visiting Taipei for the annual "Peace Memorial Day" observance. Concerned that a major arms sale, or even alliance, with the PRC’s two main rivals was to be announced that day, the PLAAF and PLA(N)AF, and their escorts, were ordered to initiate the largest test of the Taiwan Area ADIZ to date. Hundreds of aircraft would be launched to test the Taiwanese resolve, including PLA(N)AF H-6G’s circumnavigating the Island from both the north and south.
Other PLAAF units were to be readied in case the situation deteriorated...

Thank you, very much appreciated and I hope you enjoy it!

Please any suggestions for improvement or corrections are appreciated.

On the OOB, I thought about adding more ships but wanted to keep it more aircraft/air ops centric.

Started playing this on my live stream tonight. Things started off slow. Put all my bombers on support missions in the appropriate areas and sent a few fighters to watch over them. My first mistake was not putting enough fighters up. Wasn't sure how long it was going to be before things kicked off so I wanted to have enough aircraft in reserve for when my CAP cycled. My second mistake was not putting more up after a few of my bombers wondered into the NFZ and one got shot down. That could have been an isolated incident but it wasn't, a few minutes later all hell started to break loose. Good portion of my bomber force was in the wrong positions and got jumped by the Taiwanese fighters. Distracted some of them by launching missiles from the bombers but still lost a lot of them. Unfortunately, for all the missiles I launched I only took out the three ships in the strait. That's where I ended things for the night.

Overall I've enjoyed it so far. Looking forward to seeing how the rest goes.

With only three Taiwanese ships (at least detected) I wouldn't mind having some more LACMs on some of the bombers. The Kidd downed my first few salvos of ASCMs but I eventually ran it out of missiles. At that point I still had way more ASCMs then I needed to destroy all three ships.

I'm going to have to check out the stream. The H-6G's don't have the ability to carry LACM's as I wanted tp put them on them. I'll check out the H-6Ks and that to see if I can give them a better loadout.

Very minor tweaks to label the various bases with RPs and number the OPAREA RPs.

Just me but I normally build a box that is inside the OPAREA so the aircraft can turn without straying outside the OPAREA. You lost VPs by straying outside the box and weren't inside for 45 minutes. Added some text to the description on this.

BTW, nervous "Nuggets" and other knuckleheads' are kind of built in but as a side function. I agree doing it for each aircraft would be awesome but with something this big that's a LOT of Lua coding. Could work for a small scenario.

Boy did I get my clocked cleaned in this one [Disaster]. Very nice job BD! Premise was great. Lots of tense moments and definitely a lot of shoulda, woulda, coulda thoughts. I bunched the bombers in too few stations so they got bagged when the balloon and seekers went active. Need to disperse more next time.

Still love Kidd DDGs. Eventually killed it but only after it really chewed up several salvos.

Very funny adding the last J-7 regiment.

Suggestions- Find testers who don't suck..

Perhaps another PLAAF fighter regiment in the south. I know that's mostly PLAN territory but sure there is another base down there.

Beyond that I think it is pretty great as is.

Mike

I've through about that and yeah.

I was also thinking about adding another H-6K Regt that wasn't part of the ADIZ Mission. Again that (Command) Mission (Scenario) Creep thing!

Added a J-16 Brigade/Regt near Hong Hong (South) per above

Added an H-6K Brigade/Regt that is NOT meant for ADIZ missions (2 hour delay on it) for possible retaliation missions.

Submitted, I tweaked the Proficiency of the new H-6K and J-16 aircraft I added, but otherwise it is the same as previous.
