• A hard day for subs on both sides.

• No sightings of IJN heavies. A submarine's last transmission 100,58 2 hexes west of Nagasaki about engaging tankers could have been a sighting of carriers instead.

• The USN ships recently withdrawn from the South China Sea are getting much overdue maintenance at Manus and Truk. Saratoga is heading to Pearl Harbor to get her 1/45 AA upgrade at the same time. Wasp II also will head to Pearl Harbor as her deferred maintenance needs are more serious.

• The troops on Daito Shoto need to recuperate before commencing clearing operations.

• The Okinawa operation will proceed as soon as possible.

• Our carriers will withdraw to replenish squadrons before the Okinawa operation, but otherwise the fleet is in good shape. Daito Shoto will be cleared before Okinawa, partly because we have to put ashore two command HQ on Daito Shoto to aid that operation.

• I assume the IJN will make it's final stand to oppose the Okinawa operation. I'm not sure if all the USN fleet carriers will be back on the line, but we also have the RN carriers, battleships, and cruisers to call on for the operation.

Status: offline 		Good job at Daito Shoto! Capturing it should prevent creation of more SSX. IIRC, SSX are created in batches of six (if there is enough supply and SSX in the pools). The numbering of the SSXs you have sunk suggests at least 18 were created recently but you have sunk about 12-13 and the one that torpedoed Oklahoma is out of torps (maybe sunk too). Just clean-up now.

After considering what a B-29 port strike might do to them, I expect KB and company were moved to Hokkaido or Sakhalin.

Glad to see those two Fletchers mopping the sea floor with Es!

• One of the three PBM groups that just began operating out of Daito Shoto will fly night search. That should help our subs.

• The troops on Daito Shoto are recovering very well, >180,000 tons of supply will do that. tomorrow the armor will attack along with the infantry Rgt and two (out of four) infantry divisions. We will rotate units and see if we can keep up daily assaults to clear the island faster.

You can dump more supplies there and go over the storage limits and have wastage. But if he is overstacked and attacking, those supplies will be drawn down fast anyways. The Americans can afford to do that, the Japanese, not so much.

With his perimeter being pushed nearly to the HI, he may have thought that now is the time to send any AS he has out into your SLoC and set up shop at some dot base. They could supply torps for a long time! Fuel is a different issue, but Japan gets some small oilers or tankers that could sneak out there too.

I forget which AAR, but about four years ago there was a campaign which was down to the Allies about to land on Honshu. All but one of the Kuriles were taken by the Allies and that one (Ketoi?) was a dot base. He had seen (via sub I guess) that large allied CVE and APA TFs were coming westbound along the Kuriles so he sent all his float/seaplane type aircraft on strike, guessing correctly that the Allied player would not have CAP up so far behind the lines. The Allied TFs were massacred. Lesson is - don't bypass dot bases until you assess every way the enemy could possibly use them!

I keep CAP up, but that would be a shorts-changing combat replay for sure!

Well, it's only in the DEI/Philippines that I've left some dot-bases (and the Philippines I haven't taken much of at all yet).

Yes. I haven't kept close count, but he has several carriers and battleships, plenty of destroyers, but I think his cruiser pool is very limited.

In terms of light industry, I usually don't bomb it in areas near the front as I want to benefit from it after capture. Regarding Canton and HK, do you plan to capture them? Are you awash with supplies what with all of the Liberty ships in circulation so LI near the front isn't important? Just curious what your thinking is.

I usually do as you do. At this point in this game I have some problems to deal with despite my overall good position.

First, even though I got within B-29 range nice and early, Walter was even earlier with his high-tech aircraft R&D. What to do? Hitting factories directly just didn't seem to be doing enough. I'll bet he has TONS of the better aircraft and he's making the high tech stuff in numbers that my pool of B-29's can't cope with yet. So, I switched to night strategic strikes. That seems to mean Manpower, because when I targeted individual factories those strikes went poorly (might have been a flawed test). Targeting Manpower has gone fairly well, but it's still a slog. The main product is reducing Japan supply production by damaging HI and LI. As an aside, when Naha is taken and built up, I plan to base the soon to arrive B-29B there because they will be within normal range of Tokyo with their massive bombload. Then all the B-29's hit Tokyo Manpower until pretty much nothing is produced there.

As far as China goes, since much of the Allied horde is yet to arrive on the scene - Cam Ranh Bay, Singapore - I need to attack the Empire's supply stocks to overcome their army in less time.

I have already begun routing convoys from the US West Coast direct to Indochina and China will not be far behind.

I should point out that when I liberate an area I ship in supplies to repair everything. Everything. Because each item takes 1,000 supply per day, that will be really hard in China. I might have to slow it down by turning off some items until other items are repaired, but everything will be repaired or still underway when the game ends.

That won't extend to the Home Islands, but if the game goes long enough that I am getting amazing quantities of supply ashore I might start repairs.

Mixed up in that is the amount of resources needed. HI needs 10? fuel and 20 resources per 2 points of supply produced (and per HI point). LI needs 15 resources for each point of supply, a higher ratio of resources to supply than HI has. But each resource center produces 20 per turn so as long as you have 75% resource centers to LI (nearby or on major rail connection) your LI should be OK. The Industry button at the top of the page should show if there are any shortages of resources reaching the LI operating.

Right. At this point I'm only concerned about enemy (IJ) production so I won't get much insight into what is getting enough materials for production. For simplicity I'm assuming that HI and LI get enough materials to produce, and I'm knocking them down to effective zero (I don't think on recon I've ever seen either HI or LI go below 2).
