What does it do in practise when it happens? How do I know if I lose instantly or not? My Axis currently has 614 VP and the initiative is about to flip soonish.
How do I calculate Soviet VP post switch?

If I understood it correctly it's easy to lose already in 1943 if you are not close to 700VP. Is this intended design?

You can make an estimate fairly easily. The Soviet score on switch is everything they hold (city values) and a time bonus if they hold something earlier than historical (this includes +6 if a location was never lost).

if I recall, the turn summary screen may give you some extra info (not sure on this)

Yes, my personal view is the 1941 and early 1942 VP tests are there to put a mismatch out of its misery, the real axis checks in a close game are late 42/poss early 43. In turn the Soviet tests in early 43 to mid-44 are there if again the game is badly unbalanced. The real one for a close game is December 44 and then the various 1945 tests.

Well, I just have to pray for a late switch then. If it switches already in october, the Soviets have to take just one city.

This game has been pretty equal I'd say, sadly in the south in 1942 the fighting just turned into bloody exchanges since the lack of trucks in 1942 is extremely crippling. It means mounting an offensive with any worth is probably reserved for only the players who know how to conjure trucks in 1942.
