So which ship types can transport oil? It is like fuel and capacity is 1/2? Also, how can you tell if a ship is loaded with supplies or resources?

thanks

When resources or oil are loaded on a ship they show up in orange color.
If a ship can carry bulk fuel it can also carry bulk oil (tankers/AO/ and a few xAK).

Few xAK? How can you tell which ones can carry oil?

Some xAKs have a limited bulk fuel capacity in addition to their cargo capacity. The Euro K Cargo Class, for example, has 5600 cargo and 200 bulk fuel capacities. Some game displays only show the combined capacity, 5800 in the case of the Euro K class. The individual capacities are shown when selecting ships for a cargo task force.

You'll usually spot it in the ship's sub-menu under the cargo capacity.

Ok thanks. Playing Japan and just trying to understand wtf I was doing moving supplies, fuel, resources, and oil around. Picking up a game with friend after it was in limbo for 8 years. We got from 41 camp to 7/43 and now can hopefully finish it in 2022

The Kyushu Cargo Class and Yusen N Cargo Class xAK can carry 300 fuel/oil. Not sure if other classes can as well.

Suggest you guys read the manual section on cross loading.

Cross loading is possible for multiple types of cargo including the people, fuel and oil kind, albeit at reduced capacity.

Cargo can be loaded in troop space.

Troops can be loaded in cargo space.

Fuel and oil can be loaded in cargo space.

I don't believe fuel/oil can be loaded in troop space, nor troops in fuel/oil space.

Oil can not be loaded as dry Cargo, only in the liquid storage tanks. Fuel can be loaded that way in the dry cargo space at half the space represent fuel in drums. Fuel and oil can not be loaded in troop space but supplies can be loaded in troop space but at a reduced amount.

Also, you can load both fuel and oil into the same ship, likewise supply/resources. The TF map pop up shows what is loaded but the TF and ship screens don't you see what was loaded first.

If the ship has both dry cargo and liquid tank capability, the dry cargo gets loaded first. You cannot specify a dual load in one turn - you must halt the automated loading of the first item and order the start of loading of the second.

Example 1: A dual hold xAK is ordered to load supply. It will first load supply to capacity and then automatically fill the liquid tank with fuel. No need for extra orders.

Example 2. A dual hold xAK is ordered to load fuel. I believe it will load "fuel in drums" in the main cargo space but you must interrupt that before it loads fuel in the liquid tank if you wish to load oil in there. Or you could try loading oil first (it will use the liquid tank only) and then give orders next turn to load the fuel.

But as Japanese, you need cargo capacity to haul supplies to your far-flung troops and support invasions. It is a waste of capacity to use xAKs to haul fuel in drums (an half capacity). You also need xAK/xAKL to haul resources to the Honshu.

Japan gets some ships that can convert to tankers, IIRC.

I don't know if the Japanese have any dual capacity xAKs as the Allies do, but since the Allies have little use for hauling oil, and most of their dual capacity ship types have large cargo capacities, using them for the purpose of hauling oil would be largely detrimental to the supply hauling effort.

Having them carry a small fuel capacity in addition to their high cargo capacities is merely icing on the cake as hauling fuel is not their primary mission.

Have only ever played the Japanese side in the original WITP, but from all of the wailing of Japanese players over their supply/fuel woes, I surmise using xAKs to haul fuel is something they likely ought to consider.

Those ships that can carry fuel on top of cargo will load fuel whether you want it to or not. Sometimes that's aggravating. If the cargo ship is loading resources it will load any available oil in those spaces. That makes those ships good for moving resources out of Hokkaido as there is some oil production there but no refinery capacity.
