The usefulness is that something doesn't happen in game while your view of the game is blocked by the database. Things can happen fast.
It's an annoyance to me as well, from the standpoint that sometimes I forget to unpause. Then I wonder why my planes aren't moving on their patrols.
My wish would be that it automatically unpauses when you close the viewer.

Altought the sim automatically unpause (like when you enter in available planes in airfield) I many times while the sim is running i take to check some units in the db viewer, if you want to do this the sim is pausing and unpause all the time while you check different units in db viewer.
During most all time doesnt happen anything and whereas you can go doing different things while the time running. If you want pause the game for no miss anything do it.

Regards

Like i said for me that while the sim is running i like to check the units and weapons is really annoying that all the time the sim is in pause. The best would be an option for enable/disabled this behaviour (however for me would be remove it directly).

Regards

You can just click arrow button after opening DB Viewer and game will resume.

I like the pause. If anything changes I'd say make it an option for the user.

There was a while thread on wanting the game to pause on database viewer opening. So i think the devs added that quite a few versions ago.

Let me preface this by stating that I am not a programmer or coder or associated with Matrix games and I assume no responsibility for any issues that may result from this action.

I am only a CMANO/CMO enthusiast sharing a solution to the "database pauses game" issue that I was given a while back.
*****

Go to your CMO main folder and open the "Config" folder.

You will find a "Command" file.

Ensure to make a copy of the "Command" config file PRIOR to modifying it and save it somewhere safe just in case you make a mistake. Please be careful when modifying this file to avoid creating a huge headache for yourself.

Open the command file in a text editor like wordpad or notepad. I think you need to make sure that "word wrap" is on, so its easier to read.

Scroll down until you find the line:
"PauseOnDBView = True"

Change the value so that the line reads:
"PauseOnDBView = False"

Save the file and run Command.

You should be able to access the database entries without the simulation pausing in the background.

Open the Command.ini file with a text editor. Find the line:

PauseOnDBView = True

Amend to read:

PauseOnDBView = False

Save. Close. Play.

After I made that post about it, I started digging around in the game folder and I finally remembered and just re-edited my message here to reflect that.

As I posted my edited message, I realized you'd already answered my original question and solved the issue. :D LOL!

Thank you Randomizer!
