Started a new game, versus the AI, as Germany for a long '43 campaign with version 1.06.49. And there are some improvements that I can see. Alas, it feels like there are some disappointments as well.

I am currently at turn 5. And I am wondering if it is worthwhile to continue with this version. Perhaps it will be wiser to wait for the next update and start anew.

One of the major concerns I have is that the Allies bombs airfields that doesn't seem to exist. Three of them was bombed in Italy this turn. I suspect that it is Allied airfields that will activate once they are in Allied controlled territory.

The first two bombed airfields that seem non-existent were Nandurla, and Capodichin #2 airfield. See picture.

BTW. Had to crop the picture some since the file size allowed is only 200 kB. Perhaps it is time to increase it?

And here is a picture of the third weird airfield, Sterparone, targeted by the Allies in the same turn.

Also, the Allies fly bombing raids rather deep this early in the campaign. Notice the two Allied bomber raids on their way into Yugoslavia (shown in the picture).

Although deep raids with unescorted bombers might be a good move by the AI since they slaughter any incoming single seat fighters. A fully rested group with 36 FW 190A-6 got severely beaten by unescorted flying fortresses. When the slaughter was done the bombers lost one aircraft (according to the combat reports I got), while the German group lost plenty. Not sure how many were lost. But 5 pilots were killed, and 7 wounded.

Note that the German group had their morale break several times but they pressed on anyway. Afterwards they had 10 in morale. Over 70 before they attacked the unescorted bombers.

Anyway. I got even worse results in the previous version. But then I played longer before I got a result that bad.

So I am wondering if the morale breaking effect is working as intended? Because to me it looked like they attacked as normal.

Noticed some strange AI behaviour in the previous version. Any point in bringing that up now? Haven't gotten far enough into this version to see if it still persists.

Also, how many rail-flak trains should Germany begin with in the '43 campaign? Is it a random number? Or fixed?

I ask because I got one more heavy flak train in my previous game (with previous version) than I got with this new game.

We should be coming out with 1.06.51 soon which fixes most of the problems you mention. Those airfields come alive for the Allies after the invasion of Italy. I found several lines of code that were not culling out future locations for targeting.

We also fixed some problems with the arrival times of flak and other units so that might be what you are seeing. You would have to have started a new game to see those.

Thank you. I will wait for 1.06.51, and then start a new campaign.

Sorry for this question, had the game installed about two years ago. I still get the notifications, however, I noticed above pictures of Sicily. Is this a mod of the game with a new map? I don’t remember this part since I only thought it was Northern Europe and Britain.

Thanks

No mod.

The game has two parts, or rather two different games.. First part is battle of Britain with what you describe. The second part is the Allied bomb campaign of EuroAxis from August 1943, and that part includes Sicily since the Allies had bases there.

Observation, not complaint
Bomber Command seems to have its historical accuracy coded.
Raids on Hamburg are hitting Kiel, no more surgical strikes at night.

I like the select more units option when creating a bombing raid, but its not available for a fighter sweep.

One oddity, 15AF was targeting the Toulon sub pens from Foggia bases, I know I selected egress points as the AI wanted to visit defended sites. The Bombers successfully hit the sub pens. During the combat phase I'm shocked as there is air combat over Geneva!!! Somehow the B24's are taking the scenic route home.

Clarification, the 15AF raid didnt detour via Switzerland, it performed a shuttle raid and landed in the UK!!!!

I dont think I chose a shuttle mission??

That's really odd. What is the HQ of the base in England that it landed on? Did it remain there into the next day?

Apologies,

I went back and reviewed all of the missions.

Somehow I must have planned the mission out of Foggia, I know I did because the AI route back was over Toulon so I moved the way point out to sea. Somewhow I must have not completed this raid before planning the next one out of England which kept Marseilles as the target.

So my 15AF raid didnt fly, and my 8AF Liberators flew across France to smash the pens at Marseilles.

I dont recall planning a raid out of England using the B24's but........

Maybe a "bug" of the AI, it happened to me to plan raids from England on France and to see in the list of available bombers those being based in Corsica and in Italy...
to be continued !

Started a new German long campaign with v1.06.52, and in the 4th turn the Allied air force in Italy bombed such an airfield. This bug seems to remain in some form.

I think I nailed this and the road junction targeting bugs. Its goint to the beta team for testing.
