Ok, this link is not working at present, but you can access the FAQs thru the SPWaW manual file in your main SPWaW directory.
To read it, you need the free Adobe Acrobat reader--you can get this here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
This is the free program, so go ahead and download it.
After installing the Acrobat program, you should be able to open "Spwawman" and have it display ed propeand print the info on your screen.

Pleased to see it doesn't say 'Europe: UK', however.

Geographically, maybe.

But as for being part of an Gaullist device for increasing French global dominance at the expense of national self-interest... no thanks.

Checked out the url - nothing there.

Everything works on the menu but the game!

8.0 with 8.1 patch, XP Pro, scads of mem, disk space. Only thing I can think of is it is a portable so maybe the screen refresh? but - a "true" windows game, whatever that is.

HInts? Help? Cannot find a tech trouble shooter FAQ section. Thanks for the try anyway.

Try to run the game by the Mech.exe file, directly.
You can find it in the main spwaw folder.
If it works, then what you're missing is only the intro movie.
Not a big loss: once seen you'd skip it anyway, I guess. :)

Hell there is an intro movie?!?! I just get a black screen and I click and it goes away.

You can try to access the other parts of the window through your start menu and navigate through program folders, although if a program isn't going to work it isn't going to work.

I think you can see the movie anyway by loading the
SPWAW.avi file with an avi player. But well, it's
not really soooo great...

First and foremost: Manual.
Manual is automatically installed on your computer from 7.1 on up. It is found in the start menu folder that contains the rest of your Steel Panthers World at War items. It requires a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download).

H2H can be found at Panzer Leo's site.

Original Steel Panthers Strategy and Tactics Primer (link).

Larry Holt's FAQ MUST READ!!

Our Own Cpt Pixel's Artillery Guide

Our Own Cpt Pixel's Direct Fire Guide (read if you are having trouble assualting a position i.e. you feel you should be inflicting casualties but are receiving them instead)

These links were working as of 3-29-04.

Alright guys, I tried to find the online FAQs, but apparently they have disappaered into cyberoblivion. I hate this, but they are still available in the SPWaW manual included in everyone's game folder. You have to have Abode Acrobat installed, and it's a pdf file called SPWaW manual.

I came back to SPWW recently.  I almost forgot why I stopped playing.  Then just recently my screen went blank and the only way out - yes, I tried everything - I had to shut down the PC.  What's the word on this - Chronic?

This has happened to numerous people, you will find tons of posts on it..
solutions are..
1. Shut down programs running in background. Anti virus programs and such...
2. Roll back video drivers, this one worked for me..

Thought I'd update this link, the one below works. The primer is for the original SP put out by SSI but I'm sure the tactics are still valid.

Since I could not find this anywhere and I looked. I have been playing Steel Panthers since it came out. I have been playing World at War version since it came out. When I upgraded to Windows 10 it stopped working. So yesterday I thought I would try once again to get it working on my computer.

So I bought the Generals Mega Campaign edition and installed it.

Win, the game works, kind of.

Everything but artillery works perfectly.

Artillery appears to have a bug involved with the cursor. When I click on artillery I cannot select a hex until the cursor appears and even then I am having to click it 5-20 times before it will work. So imagine if you will a random campaign. You have 2 mortar batteries of 6 mortars each. An FO and your commander to direct mortar barrages. And every single turn you are having to click upwards of 5-20 times to pick a hex, to then pick type of ammo or worse have to adjust fire, now do that 12 times each turn. Then add to that a scenario where you purchased off board artillery.

So I have just added several hundred extra mouse clicks that are not registering because of some kind of bug between the cursor and the mouse but only in artillery. Every other part of the game one mouse click works perfectly every time I click the mouse. But in artillery screen it takes sometimes upto an extra 60 mouse clicks.

So there is a serious bug in this program I purchased yesterday.

As I could not find a bug reporting section and nobody is talking about this problem. I thought I would point out that a game being sold as of yesterday has a serious issue with it. So bad, I could not finish a normal random gen campaign first scenario of Germany defending against Poland across a narrow front in 1939 in my usual time of around 30 minutes or so. Because I am clicking hundreds if not thousands of extra mouse clicks each turn. It is incredibly frustrating.

Like I said, in no other part of the game is there an issue with the mouse. Works perfectly every click.

In all my years I have never bought the Mega Campaigns and was looking forward to playing them. Now the game is simply to frustrating to play because of this bug.

I have had this game on my pc since 286 dos days. The second there was a work around to make it work on Windows I had it back on the computer. The same for windows 7. I lost the game in the upgrade to 8 and then 10 and after hunting and searching and lurking found it was working again if I bought the Mega Campaigns here at Matrix.

So here I am and it works, yeah, kind of, boo.

Yes I found out during a live Twitch Stream that Steel Tigers is soon to be seriously being worked on. Unlike many here while hyped I will wait until the game is done to pass sentence.

Please help. Is there a patch somewhere that fixes the mouse bug in the artillery screen? Is there a work around. I really love this game and spent 4 hours frustratingly attempted to play a single scenario and yeah I am not even done yet. But I did successfully save the game and was going to post here first before pulling my hair out again.

Thanks All and if I missed a post about this or a fix somewhere on this forum or elsewhere, thanks in advance if someone can point me there.

Now all I have left to do is download all those campaigns I used to have and any new ones since last I installed this.

Thanks,

Chris

May have just found the fix.

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/spwawdepot/unofficial-depot-patch-8-403d-artillery-screen-lag-t277.html

Is this the fix? If it is, why hasn't this been coded into the actual game being sold on the site? It appears this is a known issue since 2016 at least since that is when the fix was posted.

The least someone could have done was have an exe file as part of the new product download for the game that ran after the install so it was upto date. I mean you guys are a pc game distributor. If you sell a new product, you need to support that product. No matter what it is. Especially when it comes to known issues.

Thanks, Chris

Yes, what you found is the fix for the artillery Screen issues, along with a few other things.
It is NOT an official patch through Matrix, but a fan based solution. It is safe, there have been thousands of D/L's with no issues reported.

I believe I did offer the adjusted mech.exe file to Matrix, but received no response. Maybe since The Depot is offering it they felt there was no need. That, and they abandoned the game a long time ago other than taking in $ for the Mega's.
C'est la Vie!

We fixed it, so you can play it.

cheers

MM
