Well, I happily took my initial design efforts offline - thank gosh - but good to see a discussion here. Best wishes!

Ah, too large to attach. Will post a dropbox link or something.

Sneak preview, Mike?🤓 Already created a Plan Martin variant of Wacht am Rhein?

If it is the scenario, you can upload it to the VRDesigns scenario bank.

It's great to have the ATG scenario creator legends here as well. I do wonder, if it would be feasible to join up and prepare maps, OOB, etc. for a Market Garden scenario project? What we'd need is one person who loves to create maps in DC:AO. Feedback, suggestions?

Lion of Judah really loves making maps. Unsure if he would be willing, but there is a suggestion. I could too, but I am a bit tied up with my 6th Army Campaign right now (for ATG). Maybe when that is done?

Maybe we'll find another volunteer for map making. Using the JTS Market Garden maps as templates would make it easier.😉

Hi Klaus !
6th Army Campaign is a great game, and must be finished !

I think i can help with the "Market Garden Project", give me some days and i upload the map !
I made a rough test map that need some fixing but is perfect to start the project.

The area around Arnhem is already good....

Excellent! The more people are getting interested in making a set of Market Garden scenarios the better. It would be a team effort after all. Some like creating maps, I like the OOB and TO&E research (well, I got most of the OOB already anyway from different games). The trickiest part would be the fine tuning with the libraries, event tables, officers etc. But once the map(s) is/are done, it's a start.

I would like to see this format and scale of play on the Eastern Front.

With editors and a full offering of units for the whole war and a complete overall map of the entire Eastern Front
the ability to recreate historical engagements would be epic.

Sounds like a commercial game.

What would you be willing to pay for it, and how long do you think it will take to develop?

Need some follower power to find somebody who's good in playing around graphics programs.
While brainstorming some ideas about potential scenarios, I'd require a 7,5cm FK 16nA or 7,5cm FK/38 graphics picture(s), some NATO symbols to represent Bridge Engineers (Brückenpioniere), Panzer Pioniere, SF/Kommando, Construction etc.

Any takers? Thanks in advance.

It would be a new game. I prefer the unit graphics and component breakdown. Again, with editors the ability to recreate "What If" scenarios across the entire Eastern Front and timescale 1945 thru 1945 would be epic.
Perhaps a number of scenario's and also the ability to create scenario's and then link them into a custom campaign would be feasible.
For instance you could follow Das Reich or the 1st SS Panzer Corps for a certain time period.

One reason I am so interested is the fact that Hitler wanted more Pz divisions so he cut the number of tanks in half. Guderian strongly disagreed.

1940 Pz TOE (Pz 1-5) was:
2- Armored Regiments and 1- Pz Grenadier Regiment

1941/2 Pz TOE (Pz 6-10) was;
1- Armored Regiment and 2- Pz Grenadier Regiments

It would be most interesting to see what would have happened if that had not been ordered.

It would be the Ultimate Eastern Front sandbox and I would pay for it.

Here are dropbox links to several scenarios. They are designed (using the word loosely) to be played vs the AI on challenging setting.

Although changes to the Libraries were made for the West Wall scenarios, it's probably best to just open those folders and download the scenario file only.

The goal here is to create free-flowing meeting engagements that allow the user access to a variety of units without the "burden" of supply/fuel handicaps. The exception is the "On to Dinant Axis" scenario, where the Axis player does attack.

The "real" goal here is to encourage our talented scenario designers to get some works-in-progress up on the web here or at VR Design's website to showcase the flexibility of the system and the adaptability of the AI when creating sandbox-type engagements. These offerings are really designed for beginning players only - in fact I'm embarrassed already.

I believe these links allow anyone to download, but I am unfamiliar with the "new" dropbox criteria, so let me know...

(Dropbox links omitted)

Your links seem to be of the entire library of the game! Not sure that stuff is allowed to be shared for one, for the other, that is not how you share it most easily. That is done by going to the dashboard (the simple editor) and choosing to press the button below:

The method for loading it to the VRDesigns scenario bank is unchanged from what it has been for any and all of Vics other games, that allowed it.

If you need help with that, I'll be willing to post some screenies of that too.

Gosh I'm an idiot. And as fate would have it, better these games are not downloaded at this time.

But now that I know, I will use the logical way for something possibly worth sharing. Thanks for the kind help.

BTW, have always enjoyed your ATG scenarios, ernieschwitz. I'm sure just a matter of time until you break through with some great ones for DC:AO!

JTS (now WDS) Panzer Campaigns titles set in the Western Front have quite a large number of scenarios set during the same time period. Maps and OOBs are already there. I think it should be doable to design at least a dozen scenarios based off of those. I'm not sure if copying/being influenced by scenarios from another game by another publisher will be received well, however. Thoughts?

I did a comparison of DC:AO and WDS Bulge '44 Gold for something I had written. Both are 1km per hex and are striking examples of excellent map design.

In fact, I would recommend DC:AO players consider the WDS game, maybe during their sale starting 12/16/21. The two campaign maps are just different enough to be considered completely original creations.

Thanks for that Rosseau. It made my day. :) I really try my best when making scenarios.

I hope I will make some for DC:AO too, but I need inspiration first.. Perhaps I'll make a map of Denmark, my home country, so.. well, maybe the Brits and Yanks decide to invade here, instead of or in addition to Normandy. Doesn't sound believable? Well there are several advantages of taking Denmark, like access to the Baltic... which could force German lines to be stretched as they needed to defend the coast... Not buying it? Neither am I...

Well, personally I love what-if scenarios, even if they are stretched a bit. In my old age, I try not to be too encumbered by history, as I've been there and done those scenarios.

But many others would strongly disagree.

In the end, I vote for a scenario designer's passion, rather than choosing the road well traveled.

There's room for Unternehmen Nordwind, a hypothetical Plan Martin, etc. Now that we have the Market Garden map (needs more marches to reflect the polder land of the Netherlands), there are plenty of small scenarios possible, even after Market Garden.

Some phases of Operation Nordwind, I suspect would make a good scenario. Especially the cumulating operations against the reinforced VI corps could be very interesting. Very chaotic battle but might be hard to get good OOBs and maps.

Here is first take at a mechanized engineer NATO symbol (had to convert to jpg to post here, pardon the white background). I did this based on the dimensions and format of the original engineer NATO graphic in the the graphics folder. I checked scenario design documentation, but did not see specifically what files to change to to add new NATO symbols, so this was a guess. I wanted to check if this is the right graphic and scale from anyone that knows.

There are actually 3 graphics you need to change for each symbol you want to make.

There will be a folder called NAME (Name is the name you give it, it can be anything), then a folder called NAMEBIG, and a folder called NAMESMALL. All located in the Graphics folder of where DC:AO is located.

The graphics in the NAMEBIG folder have to have the dimension 76x76. The graphics in the NAME folder have to have the dimension 38x38, finally the NAMESMALL has to have a dimension of 19x19. These correspond to each of the three zoom levels.

If you are going to be experimenting with these, I highly recommend starting with the BIG graphics and then shrinking it to the Normal size, and then to the SMALL size. You might also start out by copying and using graphics that look like the ones you are going to create, and then modify them accordingly.

(edited as I uploaded it to scenario bank)

_WaR-H2.dc4 985.1 KB

version: 17 Dec 21

Tank does matter.
It's my version of main scenario Wacht Am Rhein.
I use it as demonstrator - what changes I would like to see and to find out what other people think.

The main reason was to increase importance of armored vehicles on battlefield.
They just die in assaults too fast and are too fragile to my liking (yes, it's a matter of taste). So I've improved their ranged fire form 50% to 65%. Firing from distance now makes sense.

Second chance is adding some missing replacements and making them more unpredictable. Work in progress, but it's done partially. It' mostly done by +1 random unit a turn for some common types. Unfortunately I don't know how to FORCE the game to actually use horse carriages as replacements for artillery units.

Third thing is increased number of panzerschrecks in all German units. Right now, only by replacements, as I did not want to manually rearrange units on map. But if replacements will arrive, then every battalion could have up to 9 of them. I've 2 turns for increased panzerschrecks arrival. Should fill some vacates.

Fourth thing is fuel for Germans that is increased from 4k to 4.5k every turn. This should help. As the real nightmare were narrow roads and interdiction by allied airplanes, not shortages of fuel in rear area depots.

Fifth. I've added 2 small battalions to HGB. Nothing fancy, just to test how it works in editor with disbanding battlegroups.

Six. Recon points for standard recon vehicles are 5. Jeeps and Kubelwagens have 2 points.

Seven. Removed 50% probability of drawing artillery fire by some mortars. There were two such types. I've set linear 20% probability for many units. Still don't know why some artillery units have this flag set up and some not. I'm tempted to set it the same for all trucks, artillery and mortars (20%) and the same for all infantry (10%). This way artillery/mortars will not shot vs. tanks if other units are near.
