Someone had a comment that she wanted to find the bottom of the lake. I guess that she did. But why without proper preparation?

That comment, of course, refers to the Royal Marines who served aboard ships as the security detail to keep the British sailors away from the grog!

That would also cover the US Naval Infantry also called the US Marines. When they get a boo-boo, they have to go to the US Navy for help - or call for a Navy Corpsman.

I wonder what situation led the honourable Montgomery to make that pondering.

Yes, a red tailed hawk in my backyard eating a squirrel. Red tails are the largest kind of hawk you'll see around here. You may also have heard of the fighter squadron named for them that operated in Europe.

I think that the largest bird that I have seen flying around here is the Golden Eagle. They make the Bald Eagles look small . . .

Interesting to see the lightning flashes all over the surface. Given the size of Jupiter, some of those bolts would be 1000 times bigger than anything seen on earth!

Saw a documentary about Auroras a couple of days ago. It showed Aurora crowns on both poles of Jupiter and Saturn. Surprised they were not in that animation fly-past.

The famous "Great Red Spot" on Jupiter, that can be seen in the first video at around 2:28, has actually roughly the same diameter as Earth.
The thing is basically a giant storm that rages on Jupiter since hundreds of years, if not even longer.
Always amazing to see how small we are in the great scheme of things.

Even the ones on Earth are too ethereal to capture on regular video from orbit. The camera settings would have to be pretty particular.

And it would have been most visible over the dark side of Jupiter, which they didn't show much.

They showed the aurora over Jupiter in the documentary I watched on Smithsonian channel. Images from a satellite dedicated to exploring Jupiter for the next decade or so. Of course the aurora only shows up to the naked eye when their is a big enough mass ejection from the sun - a heavier solar wind. The doc also showed the auroras at earth's poles from space. Again, they would have taken the pictures at peak activity.
