Just get an ad about a dual Haswell Xeon (12c24t) rack server selling about $400. I wonder if it will runs CMO much faster than the workstation I'm using now (Skylake 4c8t), or the consumer version won't use all those extra cores?

Currently CMO rarely uses more than 6-7 cores concurrently, depending on what is happening on the running scenario. There are certain conditions where it may fully saturate even a very high core-count rig (e.g. LOS tool, DLZ calcs against multiple targets etc.) but these tend to be very case-specific and transient.

Not disagreeing with anyone, but this is what I have typically seen. Its a 10 core/20 CPU i9. Op Brass Drum with 800 units or so runs about 25-30% CPU load consistently across all cores. Some a little higher and some a little lower. No other significant apps running, other than CMO and the resource monitor. How much all those cores help, I can't say. Actual game performance appears to be more CPU frequency-based.
